frustrated with split transactions
I am trying to enter a new split transaction for 7/08/2011. When chose split under the new transaction button, the program went back to an entry in 2008 when I entered a split transaction to the same company. I could never get the program to recognize the new date and the new amount. Then I got to a place where there was a new date, but the wrong total amount, the amount for 2008, not 2011. I couldn't change the amount and soon the date went back to 8/2008. I did choose delete split a couple of times because it was for 2008 and not 2011. Now when I try to start over with the 2011 date, the new transaction box will not let me create a split. I have also changed the total in the 2008 transaction because it now shows just one charge, not the correct total and it only shows one category.
I have no idea what to do or how to get this program to let me
enter my new transaction with splits. It is very frustrating.

Hi Sue,
One way to create a Split txn is to click on the 'New Transaction' button then use the keyboard shortcut, CTRL - L (CMD - L for Macs)

I believe what you are experiencing is the auto complete function. When you enter a description/payee that matches a prior transaction the values from that matching transactions are copied into the new transaction.
If you enter the amount before entering the payee the split will not be automatically populated with the data from the matching transaction.
