Dropdown lists disappear when scrolling reaches the end of the list
Mac Version 2011
I use the mouse scroll to navigate in drop down lists. If I am not
careful and the scrolling reaches the end of the list, the list
closes, rather than stopping at the end of the list. This means you
have to use the scroll bars at the side of the windows and this is
counter-intuitive.
Would be great if the scrolling simply stopped when you get to the end of the drop down list

Hi Greg
I can't reliably reproduce this but there is definitely something up. If scroll slowly I can go to the end of the list and hard stop. However I have noticed that if I scroll quickly sometimes the list closes. Can you confirm if that is also the case with what you are seeing.

Ben,
You are absolutely right. I use a mousepad with accelerated scrolling, so I always get to the end fast. If you go slowly, it works

I'm using a Magic Mouse with OS X 10.6.8. I've found that if I keep my finger on the left side of the mouse when stroke up or down to scroll the menu, the menu will usually stay alive. But if I forget and use the center of the mouse (as I do most other places), the menu will scroll a bit and then close.

Is it possible that as you are scrolling you are moving the mouse pointer outside the bounding rectangle of the list. If the pointer is moving outside the list the scroll event will be passed to the control behind it and the list will close.

For the record -- using build 792 in Windows Vista -- fast scrolling does not cause any problems that I can find. I have not been able to make the menu disappear as long as the mouse pointer is over the menu.
However, when I click the up/down symbol in any field, the menu opens completely above the field, with the mouse pointer outside the menu. Therefore if I click and then scroll without moving the mouse, the menu immediately disappears. This is most annoying. (Note that in Windows, I click-release to show the menu. I cannot click-hold-scroll, as I think is possibly on Mac OSX.)

Hi All,
I've filed a ticket for this bug, since we're able to produce it semi-reliably. We'll look into a fix and let you know when it's been implemented.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

I'm currently using MD 2011r2 (805), and I haven't seen this problem in awhile. Re: my post on August 24, 2011 @ 10:10 PM, the scrolling works fine now regardless of where I stroke the Magic Mouse, and inertial scrolling works fine as well (where you give the scrolling list a quick push-and-release, and it slowly comes to a stop).

I agree, the problem is now resolved. Thank you

The variant I posted is not fixed as of v805. This is likely a separate problem, so it might be best to go ahead and close this ticket and I'll file a new one. (I never encountered the original problem.)
BTW, the link to the Windows installer on the preview page is 404. It tries to link to v808, but only 805 is available -- I had to hand-modify the URL to get it.
