Tags Report does not appear to be working properly
I am new to Moneydance having purchased it to see if it is a viable (to me) replacement for Quicken. I am having trouble getting the tags report to work properly. I selected the Tag Summary report and restricted it to only my credit card. Running the report for this year gets no hits even though there are transactions with tags. I tried the Transaction report and selected my credit card account, this year only, all cleared, reconciling an uncleared transactions, and the specific tag that I'm looking for. In this case it finds the tags for the cleared transactions only not the uncleared transactions. Am I doing something wrong?

Tags in Moneydance are somewhat complicated.
A different tag can be applied to each side of a transaction.
When you tag a transaction only one side gets the tag. The side that gets the tag is the other side. e.g. if you are in checking and you enter a transaction categorised as Home:Misc and you tag it with "Tag1", the transaction that gets the tag is the one in Home:Misc not the one in Checking.

Ben,
In Quicken you can classify a transaction with a particular class. In my case if I use my personal credit card to pay for something for my wife's business, I assign it a particular class e.g Studio: Office Supplies/WSPA. I have a memorized report that searches our personal checking account and my credit card account for transactions with the class \WSPA. Is there a way to easily do this in Moneydance?

I have updated to the 803 release but I am really disappointed to verify that reports are getting worse and worse.
1) Now all my report are messed up as they lost the memorized applied filter!!!
2) After so many years I do not understand why you summarize amounts in reports in a base currency. If a report is only in Malaysia Ringitt the total SHOULD BE (MUST BE) in Malaysian RIngitt!!! At least gives us a choice.
Reports are terrible

Hi Lou
In build 803 we have reinstated the old "Transactions" report (not to be confused with the Transactions Filter). If you run this report on a single account the totals are in the currency of that account.

Mark you can do exactly what you are asking for using Tags in Moneydance. The detailed income and expense report filtered by should give you what you want. Just be sure that you apply the tag in the credit card account register or the checking register and not in the register for the income or expense account.

I stil fon't get why in a report is foreign currency you subtotal the amount in thebase currency and NOT in the currency used in the report.

If you are running the Transactions report on all accounts the subtotal will be in the base currency.
If you run the Transactions report on a single account the subtotal will be in the currency of the account selected. This is true for the Transactions report in build 803.

I am sorry but for me is not working.
I am using version 803.
I have a report based on 1 account (only) that is in Ringitt malaysia. The report shows the subtotals and the totals in Euro!
I don't understand why. After so many many years is still the same.
At least give us a chance to choose to report on the account currency or in base currency.
We live in a GLOBAL WORLD nowadays!

When are you going to fix it?
10 Posted by Ben Spencer on 19 Nov, 2011 07:59 PM
In build 803 there is a report called the Transactions report.
If you us the Transactions report in and limit it to a single account the entire report will be in the currency of that account.

Why you keep replying the same thing over and over?
I told you already that this information is NOT correct.
I am using version 803.
I am using transaction report as well.
I have a report based on 1 account (only) that is in Ringitt malaysia. The report shows the SUBTOTALS AND TOTALS in Euro! WHY??????
At least give us a chance to choose to report on the account currency or in base currency.

Hi Lou,
Sorry that Ben was being less then verbose in his replies.
Unfortunately, I cannot confirm the error you are reporting when I test it.
Would you please send in several screenshots so that I can see how you have things set up. This will either tell me where a bug may be or be able to point out a setting that you may have wrong that is causing this.
If you could please give me screenshots of the following:
One of the Ringitt account. I don't need to see the transactions, just to confirm that the account is in the correct currency.
Another screenshot of the settings for the report.
And then a third screenshot of the report itself.
Thank you for helping us to work this out and I apologize for the inconvenience.
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

Hi,
Thanks for sending the screenshot it. You are correct that it does not how you would like it to nor how Ben was expecting it to.
I should point out that Ben pointed out you need to limit the transaction filter to a report on a single account, but even when you do that it does not work.
It is my understanding that previously it did function as Ben described but it appears it has become broke.
I have created a bug ticket for this and attached it to this conversation. I apologize for the inconvenience, hopefully we can get this taken care of soon.
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support
