Updating to newest version of Money Dance- Registration not recognized
Greetings,
I've been a MoneyDance user since Oct 17 2007
I updated MoneyDance and it didn't recognize my registration when
installing the new version 2011r2-803
I tried to paste my serial number in, and then when that didn't work, I keyed it in and it always said that it wasn't valid.
There is nothing in the upgrade notice about needing, or needing to buy a new licence.
What's the fix
Quickly please, I have work to do.
Thanks.
Dave

Hey Dave,
It sounds like you need a new license.

Where do I go to download the older version that I had and can I retroactively downgrade?
Wish your upgrade link had taken me to that page first.

Hi Dave,
Depending on which version of Moneydance you were using,
you can download the installation file from the following
locations.
Just choose the right one for your particular operating system:
You can download the 2011 version here:
http://moneydance.com/other
You can download the 2010 version here:
http://moneydance.com/download/2010
You can download the 2008 version here:

You can download the 2007 version here:

Hi Dave,
This might also pertain to you if you opt to downgrade.

Thanks. I'd been using v2010 and I always try to keep current and update as often as I see updates available. When they are paid updates, I want to look at what's updated and see if I need it for my iMac.
Your update link says nothing about a cost or a new licence being required so it is logical to assume that it is just another routine maintenance update.
My downgrade to v2010 went smoothly and all is again right with the world.
Thanks for helping me with the problem your lack of info created.

Hi Dave,
Full disclosure. I have no affiliation with Moneydance, Moneydance Support or help.infinatekind.com. I'm a Moneydance user, like youself.
That said. For a list of improvements made to MD 2011, look to the change log.

Every time I download the 2011 version and then open it I find it is the 2008 21-58-25 md version I already have. I have tried to type in the key I just bought for the 2011 version but it will not let me.
I am definitely opening the downloaded version from the down load file on a mac v 10.6.8

Hi,
Dave, I apologize for the confusion. A number of people were confused by that and I've asked to have the page changed to be more informative so that this doesn't happen again.
Steve, before you download try moving anything possibly moneydance related in your download folder to a separate folder and then try and download it. This way it can be very clear that it is the only copy of Moneydance that you have downloaded.
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

Jon, In fact it turns out that, according to the drop down "ABOUT' box of Money dance I have the latest version. My confusion is because the only file i have remains titled Moneydance jan 2008 21-58-25md even though it is the latest version.

Hi Steve,
Upgrading Moneydance upgrades only the application.
As you've discovered, your data file remains uneffected. The data file is it's own separate file.

Steve,
Is the information in the file up to date?
Moneydance does not change the name of your data file. It sounds like at some point you opened a back-up file which does have a dated name. If this is all the case you can use File -> Save As to give your file a more timeless name.
Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Sincerely,
