Online Bill Payment Error / PNC Bank
I am able to download transactions from my bank with no problem. Since I began using Moneydance a couple of months ago, I have been able to make online bill payments but only after posting the transaction multiple times. For the past week, I have not been able to post any online bill payments with Moneydance. I receive the following errors:
There was an error communicating with your financial
institution. The details of this error are below.
I'm sorry, an error occurred. The details of this error are
below.
Error Description: java.lang.Exception: Server did not acknowledge

Any help appreciated

The preview release appeared to correctly send a check from a PNC account on
the first try. Great progress. I have several questions however.
1. When I select Online|Online Bill Payment, the box shows the transaction
and it says "processed". However, there is no indication of a check number.
Quicken tells you the check number assigned by the bank. I had thought from
an earlier exchange that plans were for Moneydance to also provide the check
number? This would be a huge convenience.
2. If I click "refresh" in the online bill payment outbox, the transaction
vanishes from the box. I assume this is a bug? I'm not sure what causes the
status indicators in the outbox mean, and I'm not sure what event eventually
causes the transaction to vanish.
Thanks!

I have the same "Error Description: java.lang.Exception: Server did not acknowledge payment message" with U.S. Bank, running 2010 R3 (752)-- have not yet attempted the preview release to see if it fixes, but I too have noticed the above issues Robert mentions: "refresh" causes the online bill payment to disappear from the box (only to reappear again later!); and no check numbers assigned to online payments.
So that stuff appears not to be related to the preview release, but to MD in general currently.

Hi all,
We've just released the first preview build of Moneydance 2011! You can download it from our website at: http://moneydance.com/preview/
If you're willing, could you please download this and test out the bill payment feature? We believe we finally have this bug killed, but it would be good to get more confirmation.
Regarding the check number issue: does the check number appear when you download transactions for that account from your bank?

Confirming - no problems with PNC since 2011 was released. I've had it installed since it was available in beta.

Jessica,
A couple of things.
1. I installed the new version and downloaded transactions for 4
accounts. With the first account, I clicked on the first new
transaction and the window with "confirm" buttons popped up to the
right. I like the idea of this window to the right. However, I kept
clicking on "confirm" and nothing happened. The transaction category
did not change, the highlighted transaction did not change, nothing. I
single-clicked, double-clicked, nothing. One more account behaved
similarly. On the third account, a single click on "confirm" changed
the category and moved the cursor to the next entry. I assume this is
what should have happened for all accounts. So it seems like it's
buggy. The first two accounts were with PNC if that matters.
2. I had an online payment (with PNC) that I had initiated from within
MD. It has just cleared. The transaction was downloaded with a check
number of 0 (on the check it was 5007).
3. I initiated a new payment. This seemed to go fine. When I selected
"online|online bill payment", I get the same dialog box as before
(outbox and payees), and the new check was listed along with the
previous check. Clicking refresh does nothing. I close this box and
download new transactions. Nothing is downloaded, but afterwards when
I select "online|online bill payment" and click refresh, the
transactions vanish and the outbox is empty. The outbox remains empty
if I exit and restart MD. I'm not sure what is suppposed to display in
this box at various points. If the transaction is supposed to vanish
after it's recorded with the institution, then perhaps you need the
ability to show a history of online transactions?
I guess one issue for me with the bill payment feature is that I'm not
clear about the paradigm. The UI does not tell me exactly what is
happening --- it doesn't distinguish between what's happening in MD
and what's happening at the bank --- so I'm not sure what I'm supposed
to see and what indicates a successful transaction. It is *critical*
that MD clearly and obviously show me that a transaction was
successfully recorded by the bank. If it vanishes from the outbox (and
leaves a transaction in the register), I guess that's supposed to tell
me it succeeded. But it just isn't clear.
Thanks!
Bob

Sent one payment, worked fine.
Downloaded transactions, worked fine.
Didn't try any other functions.

Jessica, I just installed the preview and downloaded transactions. The check number came through for some hand written checks (as it usually does), but nothing for the Online Bill Payments. Though, I haven't made any new online bill payments yet with this new version.

How do I install the upgrade from 2010 to the 2011 preview. I downloaded the
.jar.zip file and unzipped it, but I don¹t know what to do with it now. I am
running MD on a mac.
Thanks

lmatch,
Thanks for the info. I'll pass that one to Sean, who's been working on that particular bug.
Douglas,
Instead of downloading the jar.zip, you should download the full installation for Mac, which is located at http://moneydance.com/preview/778/MacOS_X/Moneydance.zip. You can then unzip and install the update by first dragging your old app to the Trash and then dragging the new app into your Applications folder.

Jessica - If anyone is interested .. I really do NOT like the right margin reconciliation of downloaded transactions. IMHO it's far more tedious and confusing than the previous method.

I don't like the way the reconciliation window blocks out the right side of the check register. Keep it at the bottom.
Support Staff 193 Posted by Sean Reilly on 24 Mar, 2011 04:09 PM
Douglas,
To get the update you should just get the full Mac application, not the "update" files, which require more manual fiddling.
Thanks,
Sean

I LOVE the new way the reconciliation window works! Much easier, much more logical and obvious how to make selections, and much easier to see all the available possible matches! All I can think of for the people who dislike it is that they either haven't used it enough to understand how much better it is, or have their window/screen size too narrow. MUCH better!

I have a bug report related to this. I just got a bill from a new person. Went into Outbox in Online Bill Payment, clicked New Payment, clicked Pay Someone Who Is Not On The List, entered all information, clicked next, and that person was still not an option. To complete payment to them I had to go into Payees, then create New Payee, then go back and send the check.
I like reconciliation window on the right. MUCH better.

Have this same "bug" in 2010r (757)

Yep, I have the same bug. 2011 preview (778)
199 Posted by Jessica Little on 15 Apr, 2011 02:03 PM
Hi All,
Thanks for the bug report. I've filed ticket for it so that we can try to get this fixed. In the meantime, you can workaround it by just creating the payee first.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Another bug. Just sent a payment for the wrong date. I changed the transaction to the correct date, but both transactions show up in the register, though not in the Outbox.
201 Posted by Angie Rauscher on 08 Jun, 2011 06:09 PM
Karl,
When you changed the date, did you do it through the Bill Pay interface or in the register? I just want to be sure what exactly happened so I can properly file the ticket. Thanks for your help in working out these kinks,

I apologize for the late response. If the issue recurs, would you please let us know?

I have a simiar (unable to make online payment) problem w/ TD Bank -- but only one account! -- my personal account seems to to be ok. When I try to open the online payment window for my business account i get:
There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
Bank Name: TD Bank Online Banking
Account: Business Checking
Account Number: XXXXXXXXX
I'm sorry, an error occurred. The details of this error are below.
Error Description: java.lang.NullPointerException
If i try to actually make a payment, i get similar errors, the payment is posted to the bank (if i log into the bank website the pending payment is there) but it is not saved in the md register. It still downloads transactions fine.
This problem started last month. Using MD 2011(791)
Support Staff 205 Posted by Sean Reilly on 03 Jul, 2011 06:05 PM
md,
what you are seeing is a different error. When this happens can you select the Help->Console Window menu and copy all of the messages from that window into a new post on this site? (please don't reply to this thread as it is a very different issue).
Thanks,
Sean

I am an unreg user of MD 2011 (test driving for purchase). After having set and reset "on-line banking" I get the following error when trying to go through SunTrust (please help - it looks like it might be related to this thread):
There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.

Account: SunTrust Checking
Account Number: xxxxxxxxxxxx (KK sub for account number)
A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.

Hi Kevin,
Could you please post to a new thread with this issue? It will be much easier for us to resolve the problem if we keep it separate from this thread, which is unrelated.
Thanks!
