Report by Payee

I'd like to generate a report of all payments in a category (Donations) and have them subtotaled by payee, without listing all of the individual transactions. I'm 90% sure that versions of Moneydance before 2011 let me make this kind of report, which I routinely use each year to compare my charitable giving (by payee) to my giving last year. But since I upgraded to 2011, the memorized report also prints out all the individual transactions, and there doesn't seem to be an option to "Only show subtotals" or something along those lines. Was this feature somehow lost in the new reporting module? Or is there some other way to generate this information that I'm not seeing?

Ideally, the options to "Only show Subtotals" and "Subtotal by Payee" and "Subtotal by Year" could all be selected at once to give me the type of report I'm after. Since I'd really like to see a Payee list over a multi-year period I specify with a date range.

I agree with William for the needed printing options. This is one of the reasons I am reluctant to move to Moneydance - the poor reporting module. I would vote to have these changes implemented.

This would indeed enhance the functionalities of reporting in Moneydance. So this also gets my vote.

Another vote for such a function.

I would also like to see being able to do a report just using the payee field so one could see how much they paid to a particular person or company in a given time period. I would think this would be a basic need for most using Moneydance.

    Ed,

It is currently possible to run a report using the payee field. To see a report by payee, run a "Transaction Filter" report with the desired payee in the "Description" field of the report settings. Alternately, you could use the Search box from the homepage to search for a particular item across accounts, or the Advanced Search tool which is available under the "Edit" menu.

I hope this helps you with your report by Payee, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

    William,
I have many previous releases of Moneydance dating all the way back to 2003.

The releases that were capable of opening my data file date back to 2008 and 2010, no releases were made in 2009. Non of them appear to have the abilities that you are 90% sure they had. At least there were no options to generate reports in the fashion that you speak of.

Could be in much earlier releases of Moneydance, but those releases could not open my data file.

Yes, I did figure it out. I'm used to quicken and still learning how Moneydance works.

I have exactly the same question raised by the original poster - at this time of year, it is very convenient to be able to list all charitable contributions/donations, subtotaled by payee.

Thanks in advance, if there has been a fix to this.

(And if not... there should be!)

I'm in the same boat - I really want to run a report by category and subtotaled by payee within that category (yes, it's tax time). Running a total by payee means I can remember to whom I've made every charitable donation over the last year. And I really don't want to go back and "tag" all the transactions. It seems it should not be hard to sort by two factors. Thanks!
