I am not support staff, just a user.

It’s important that you have the same version and build number on both computers. Check the version and build number under HELP – ABOUT MONEYDANCE. Mine is 2017(1593). As you purchased a new licence I assume you have loaded 2017 onto your desktop.
Update your laptop to the same version\build as your desktop. You don’t state which version of moneydance you have on your laptop so use the appropriate upgrading procedure from this page. http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/moneydance-2017 You can use the same licence as you have for your new desktop.
On your laptop click on HELP – SHOW DOCUMENT FOLDER, close money dance. Copy the data set folder whose name format is yourfilename.moneydance and all its contents to the same location on your decktop. Open moneydance on your desktop, you should open in the “Welcome to Moneydance” window. If it goes straight into moneydance then open the “Welcome to Moneydance“ window by clicking on WINDOW – WELCOME TO MONEYDANCE. Your data set should be listed on the right hand top of the window. Click on it to open. If not use the “open other” option at the bottom right to navigate to your data set.

    Hope this helps.
