Archiving
I have just recently archived a previous year in MD 2008. I by mistake archived the wrong year. I need to undo my archive or find what I have archived. I have my MD to automatically back up but I can not find the back up. Please Please rescue me on this one. I have a deadline to meet and I only have 2 days left to do it.

Hi Lisa,
Your data file is a file named with a .md extension. Your backup data file is a file with the same name as your main data file but along with the .md extenson, it will also have it's creation date appended to it. For example mymoney.md-2011-11-29
Do a 'Search' of your machine. Enter *.md into the Search field. The star is a wildcard, it will help to find any file name with a .md extension.
Once you find your backup data file, you can open it from within Moneydance by clicking File > Open, in the resulting window, change the 'Files of Type' drop down to 'All Files, then navigate to the backup file.

Hi Lisa,
I'm real glad to hear that it worked for you.
If I may offer a nickle's worth of free advice... Due to today's more powerful computers, archiving has mostly become a thing of the past. Unless you are experiencing a drastic reduction in the performance of Moneydance, use Archve but only as a last resort.
Annual separation of data can be more easily accomplished through reports with customized date ranges. The newer versions of MD also have a 'This Year' filter in the register so as only to display the current year's txns.
So unless Archiving is something you absolutely must do I would skip it.

Unfortunately the company I work for will not upgrade. We are stuck with
the 2008 version. Also, we use Ubuntu/Linux. :(

Hi Lisa,
Perhaps it was just a complaint that you use linux, but just to be clear, Moneydance 2010 and 2011 do work for linux.
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support
