memorized reports

I have a memorized P/L report. I select certain categories to include and it worked well.

But, I added a sub-category I want to include. I select it, but it never shows up in the generated report. So, I got back in to re-edit - and the selection is no longer selected.

Is there a secret to adding a sub-category and getting it printed? I have tried to re-memorize, but MD doesn't always do what I think it should.

When you make an edit to a memorized report and wish to retain the edit, you need to re-select memorize and click the update button. If not the Report defaults to the original parameters.

If this does not resolve your issue, please let us know what version of MD you are using (help > about MD) and the specific step you are taking.

At this time the report generated was updated.

Now - the change is gone if I re-select the report and generate it. I
re-started program just to make sure changes were made.

It is not just that report, I found the same problem with another
    report.

In the second case, I was just trying to add an additional category.
It also generated fine, but when I went back and tried to generate it
later - the new category was no longer checked.

Let's try again on a reply.

I have been following the update procedure as mentioned above - but the update is not 'taking'. The first case was adding a sub-category, the second adding an additional category. I have found a work-around in both cases, but this problem could also affect others.

On the subject of updates -

It is necessary when updating a report to click on the down arrow for a list of memorized reports. This list is only as long as your screen. There is no scrolling ability - what you see is all you get.

Yes, I do (did) have a lot of memorized reports. I had to delete some reports to get to the report I wanted to update.

The important part is to update the report after editing it or the default is the original report. If you are following these steps and the edits are not retaining then there may some other issue. Where these reports memorized in an earlier version of Moneydance and converted to MD 2017?

These are the steps I take to edit and retain the edits for a memorized report.

    1. Edit the report
    2. click ok. The report is regenerated with changes.
    3. click memorize. The report i have open should be the one in name report window.
    4. click update.

I then close the app and restart and the edits I have made are still there. Are these the steps you are taking?

Yes, they were memorized with a previous version of MD. Sigh.

I am making the changes and memorizing according to your instruction.

Too bad the new version isn't totally compatible with previous versions.

    thanks for your time.

If the steps outlined above are not working please let me know so I can get the developers involved. They strive for compatibility from version to version. If the memorized reports are not working from one version to another they would want to fix that.

And please be aware that the memorized reports are purposely meant to default to the original setup unless updated, so you can make changes without losing the original set-up until you tell the app to change that.

I will follow your steps again and report back. I'm sure that is what I did before.

I wanted to check in and see if you are still having issues with the memorized reports?

    Well, I followed your instructions.

In the first place - "report is regenerated with changes.
click memorize. The report i have open should be the one in name report window" was not true - the box was blank.

If I named the report a completely new name - it works - it generates fine and still generates fine after closing down MD and restarting it.

If I selected the report name that I wanted to update:
     1) the immediate generation worked fine
     2) the next generation after a restart did not work - no update
3)when I go into edit the report again - the change is gone.

So, yes it does not work unless I want to change the name and memorize as a new name.

I've been using the memorize function for many years - so the memorized report was probably created under a older version of MD.

I tired an old test file form MD 2015 that contained memorized reports and could not replicate your issue.

If the memorized reports from from an even earlier version of MD it may be that the conversions altered them in a way that affects the editing.

It does seem like you have a work around. I will attach a bug ticket to this thread and let the developers know about the issue.

Well, I have a 2007 version I downloaded, so I have been using MD for a while.

I deleted some of my saved reports to get the drop-down to work, but I think I probably had had memorized reports since at least 2010.

    Thanks for the help.
