Transactions Unmatching

Transactions are unmatching themselves, and even deleting themselves.
This is a recurrence of a previous problem.

I've entered a transaction twice now and when I've gone back it my detail is missing and it's showing as an unmatched bank entry.

On the other hand I've got a transaction reminder that shows as though the bank entry has never been downloaded, I've already downloaded it at least twice and matched it.

I've found a whole lot of other things that I know I did today that I need to do again.

Random things I've done are not saving.

OK, now the whole file has reverted to 21st January, accounts that weren't created there have deleted any everything.

All I did was make a manual backup

And when I try to restore that manual backup nothing happens.

    What's going on?

    Hi Craig,

Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay getting back to you. I'm afraid that your initial request was missed by the support team. I must apologise again for the poor level of service and lack of support you have received

Can you let me know which version of the program you're currently running? To check, open Moneydance and select Help --> About Moneydance (or Moneydance --> About Moneydance on a Mac) where the version and build number will be displayed.

Did you create a backup via the File --> Export Backup option? And did this appear to create a .moneydancearchive file? If so, can you let me know what happens when you attempt to restore this file via File --> Restore From Backup.

I was on 1597, but I've since upgraded to 1599 to see if that helps.

I did create a .moneydancearchive file using Export Backup.
When I restored it I went back to around 20th January.

I've since worked out that nothing has been saved since that time and the only reason I haven't noticed is that when I open the file it was syncing via Dropbox.

    It's doing it again.

I've put a transaction into my phone.
I've then deleted it on the PC, but it keeps reappearing.

Anything I do on the PC is being over-written by old data from my phone.

I've exported a backup and the backup was right this time.
I've also turned off syncing and closed and opened the file and it was fine.

So it maybe looks more like a syncing issue than a saving issue?

    Hi Craig,

Sorry to hear of the issue you have encountered. It does sound like from what you have described that there may be an issue with the syncing mechanism. I would suggest reseting your sync settings and setting up the connection fresh to see if this resolves the behaviour.

First, go to File --> Syncing in Moneydance and disable Dropbox syncing. Then, close Moneydance and, using the Dropbox app or website interface, delete the:

    .moneydancesync

folder in your Dropbox folder. Next, re-open Moneydance and re-enable Dropbox syncing. For syncing with a mobile device, you'll need to select either Dropbox Folder or Dropbox Connection as the sync method. Finally, disconnect from Dropbox syncing on your mobile device and re-connect. You can also find the steps for setting this up outlined in this article.
