Want to locate automatic backups on separate HD...no option in prefs

I would like to locate my automatic backups on a separate HD, not the boot volume. The preference option for choosing the backup location does not not seem to allow me to browse to a separate drive.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

Just realised I can do it by putting a symlink to the separate drive, in my home folder and choosing the symlink as the destination for the automatic backups in Moneydance.

But there ought to be a simpler way.....

I'm not at a computer with Lion at the moment, but in previous versions of the Mac OS you could find mounted external drives at /Volumes/ in the file system. Does your external hard drive appear there?

    Ethan,

Yes it shows up in /Volumes and is mounted on the desktop, but is not available to select in the Preferences Backup Tab, as in screen shot attached. As you can see, the only volume showing in the Backup prefs is the boot volume "MacPro"

I am actually trying to put the backups on a partition on another disc in a Mac Pro.

    Thanks

    I use a Mac.

    Please see attached screenshots.

Choose Mac Pro. It ought to show your /Volumes .

    Thanks James and Ethan,

I have been really stupid. I was looking in the wrong place for the /volumes option...until seeing James's second screenshot.
