Txn dates

Hi all......

I brought this up before but am still having a problem, so I wanted to see if there were any new thoughts on this....

Let's say I enter a transaction that happens today- so it has today's date on it- and then sometime at the end of this week when I download transactions from my bank, it shows that the transaction actually cleared on Tuesday Jan 17th- which is different from the transaction date that I had entered of Jan 15th. Normally this would not be a big deal, but the reconcile function of Moneydance needs to have 100% correct dates for the "auto-reconcile" function at the end of the month (not sure that the name of the function but after you put a statement end date in, it automatically marks all transactions within that date range that have been downloaded as cleared- essentially eliminating the need to go through transaction by transaction and marking them as cleared) The problem is that there is no functionality to actually change the original date that I had entered on the transaction (without selecting "merge" and then going back to the register and changing it there) This means that the auto-reconcile function at the end of the month will be wrong. Does this make sense?
Essentially I'm looking for the ability to change the date when merging on the original transaction that was entered to align it to the date that the transaction actually cleared and therefore making for a seamless reconciliation process at the end of the month...

Thanks for any feedback....

Scott

I've been using Moneydance continuously since 2002.

Most of us long time users of Moneydance have gotten into the habit of downloading transactions and merging them every couple of days or so. We then Reconcile right after that. We do not wait a month to Reconcile with any bank statements. We no longer rely upon any statements from the bank to reconcile against. We don't override the Beginning or Ending Statement Balances as shown in Picture 10. Very seldom will a bank Ending Statement Balance match with Moneydance ending Statement Balance. Leave Moneydance's Beginning and Ending Statement Balances alone.

You can change the transaction date of a transaction already in Moneydance before you choose to Merge. Just double click on the transaction already in the register that you wish to change. You ought not to have to change the transaction dates if you do as suggested in the above paragraph.

If you leave everything alone during the Reconcile process, as I have suggested above, and Reconcile after you have downloaded and merged transactions every couple of days or so, you ought to end up with the results shown in Picture 11.

Since the matching process during merging is a "Best Guess" situation, you may, at times have to choose the correct payee under Similar Payees option. I have had to do that a few times when Moneydance suggested one payee with the same dollar amount as another payee. This scenario usually happens when there are multiple transaction from different payees with the same dollar amounts already in the register.

Pictures 7 - 11 show the Merge and Reconcile process in action.
Picture 4 shows the ideal Preference setup for Maximum control over the Merge process.

    James-

    I appreciate the reply back....

For me, it's not really about the reconciing process as it is about the txn dates- I just got a new computer, and before I did I was able to "confirm" the current txn without it duplicating- well that is not happening now. When I "confirm" instead of merge it creates a duplicate txn..

I know I can go back into the register to change the date, but if the field was editable in the "merge/confirm" window on the right it would be much easier

I still come back to the question of how did I have the correct functionality on my old computer but now with the most recent version on my new computer it's not acting the same?

    Hopefully this makes sense...

    Thanks

    OK.

So, the Confirm option used to change the date to that of the downloaded date.

Well, I've created a post under Suggestions: http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/suggestions/1005-changing-...

    Hello,

I've added the relevant suggestion ticket to the link James created above. Posting at that link will count as a vote of support for that feature.
