Importing from CSV to demo file
Hi
I have not managed to import CSV files to the demo version, which will be the deciding factor whether to buy the programme or not. I use a new Macbook Pro running Mac OS 10.12.4. I have tried creating CSV files from Numbers and from Google sheets which makes no difference, I also tried using Tab delimited files. In one of my CSV files, it imports a single transaction, but ignores all the other 103 rows.
I have seen other discussions on this issue, but can't find any solution.
Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben,
Could you post a sample of one of your CSV files so that I could try to help you with it?
I would need to see at least 1 Payment transaction and at least 1 Deposit transaction to see how they are formatted.
Also it would be helpful to know the type of account (Bank or Credit Card) and include the header and footer rows (if any)
Keep in mind that these are public forums so make sure not to include any sensitive information in the CSV file.

Here is the Excel file downloaded from Amex and a version exported as CSV from Numbers on my MacBook, which isn't recognised by Moneydance.
I have managed to import a CSV file to Moneydance which was downloaded as a CSV file directly from PayPal, so it does appear to be something to do with the file conversion. Amex doesn't give the option of CSV downloads.
Thanks

Hi Ben,
Thank you for the files.
The main problem that I see with the CSV file is the use of closed quotes around the amount in the following transaction:
03 Apr 2017,STA MANCHESTER TS LONDON,Travel,"£3,206.88".
The closed quotes are supposed to tell the Text File Importer to disregard the comma (used as a thousands separator) and to therefore not treat it as a delimiter. Unfortunately the importer does not understand closed quotes and therefore does treat the comma as a delimiter.
I suppose you could go in and remove the comma and the quotes but that could prove problematic with larger imports if you were to miss one or two.
If I may make a suggestion, there is a free, third-party CSV Importer extension for Moneydance that allows for closed quotes, allows for header and footer rows and more importantly, incorporates Moneydance's 'blue dot' confirmation process.
I was able to import your CSV 'as is' with the CSV Importer. (see screenshot)
If the screenshot looks OK to you let me know or let me know what you would like changed. I'm in the US, so the date format is MM/dd/yyyy but yours may differ.
If you're interested in using the CSV Importer, let me know and I'll provide the link to the developer's website.

Hi Ben,
Download the file named 'mdcsvimporter-v20.zip' from the following website:
https://github.com/stant/mdcsvimporter2015/releases
Remember where you download the file to.
If necessary, extract the file mdcsvimporter.mxt (some browsers automatically extract the file)
Open Moneydance.
From the Moneydance menu bar, go to Extensions > Manage Extensions.
In the resulting window, click the 'Add from File' button at the bottom.
A file browser will open allowing you to navigate to the mdcsvimporter.mxt file that you just downloaded.
When you click on the .mxt file you will likely receive an ominous warning that the file's signature is missing or invalid. In this instance, you can safely ignore the warning. It only means that the developers of Moneydance have not yet signed the code. Click 'Yes'.
In the resulting window, click 'Install Extension'.
You can then close the 'Manage Extensions' window.
The Extensions menu should now have a new item listed as 'Import File'.
There is a 'How to' wiki towards the bottom of the developer's website but if you need a hand setting up the Importer, let me know and I'll be glad to lend a hand.
