I was working in Moneydance with Windows XP. I'm a new user. As I was adding data, Moneydance froze then crashed. I can no longer get Moneydance to open. It will flash the banner then nothing happens after that.

It is very likely that Moneydance is running minimized. We have seen that before with XP. Look for the tab in the Windows bar and see if you can right-click and then maximize it.

How lucky that I found this answer to what looked like a terrible problem!! I just maximize the window and am back in business. But why does this all of a sudden happen??

Its not clear why this is happening. We have not been able to reproduce the problem on any of our test machines. We are continuing to investigate. Do you know which version of Java you are running? If you select Help->"About Moneydance" you can see what version of java you are using.

    Thanks for you assistance.

    Sincerely

    Hello again Ben

    Java 1.6.0-0.1

Hope you get to the bottom of this problem because other users might - as I
did - "panic" at the loss access to their financial tracking!!

    Maureen

    Hi Maureen

It might have something to do with the version of java you are using. The have been quite a number of updates to java since the version you have installed.

I would definitely recommend updating to the latest version of java from sun. Here is a link to their free download:

OK - I will certainly try this, although I have in the past encountered
problems updating Java, which is why I left the old version running. I have
tried to debug the Java update problems with the aid of their website (which
documents the problem) but still can't get past the bug. But maybe something
has changed for the better and I will try again.

Thanks once again for your advice. The main thing is that Moneydance (and
Tesco Personal Finance) now run properly. I am test-driving MD because the
Tesco software is too basic for my needs. It's good to know that there is
someone responsive at the end of the line if I need any further input.

    Regards,

    Maureen
