Budget with Payee that has unique payment schedule and amount

Hi All...

Please see the attached screen shots of my budget for an Insurance payee with 6 payments a year, starting in October going thru March; first payment is a different amount than the remaining five payments. I believe I set this up correctly in the budget manager, yet when I view the budget I see that it has green bars for all 6 line items in the budget view and they all have the same payment amount from my February payment. Whats going on? Did I set this up right? I was expecting to see the February line item as green with 52.10 (since its budgeted for 122.60) but not repeated for the other line item dates (March, Oct, Nov, Dec).

The only other payments made to this payee were 122.60 in the months Dec 2011 and Jan 2012. Please advise.

Thanks...

    James,

I think Moneydance might be getting confused by the "Annually" date range. Could you please try setting the interval to "Monthly (not prorated)" and let me know if that helps at all? We'll go from there.

I tried that already and it had No Difference.  I left the begin and end dates for each month while making the change you requested.

I've been using MD for several years and ever since this Budget graph was introduced it has not seemed to work properly when you set different values for different months for the same category. I believe there was another thread about this bug but I am unable to locate it (you can try doing a search of this site). Anyway, if you use the Budget Report it will properly display the data.

    Thanks for the reply.

I was just wondering what the dev team thought about this as they asked me to try something above which made no difference.

    James,

The short answer is "The way Moneydance see this is confused and somewhat broken" The longer answer is "Check out the MoneyPie extension, which is EXCELLENT for dealing with categories with variable amounts/payments." I've been using MoneyPie for several months and really appreciate the functionality, as well as the fact that it interacts well with Moneydance's own budgeting interface, making it an additional tool, not an either/or choice. The longest answer is "We're aware there are some serious shortcomings with our current budgeting interface, and are hard at work on some awesome new stuff but aren't ready to give a firm timeline or list of features."

I'm sorry it took so long for us to answer your question, and if we can be of further assistance please do let me know and we'll be MUCH more on top of things.
