Corruption of files and lost data

I am using Moneydance 2017 for Mac (MacBook Pro with latest version Sierra (!0.12.5). I have previously been in touch regarding two linked problems.

  1. When I enter new data the close Moneydance, it sometimes creates a new version of an existing file and I end up with multiple files e.g., Personal Finances, Personal Finances 1, 2,3 etc .

  2. Sometimes when enter data, save, and subsequently reopen Moneydance, the new data does not always show. For example, yesterday I opened my Personal Finances file and found that a bank account (say HSBC Account) was showing old and completely incorrect data; previously the data was correct and top to date. I did manage to retrieve it purely by switching to another account and by magic the correct HSBC Account was restored. However this does not always happen, which means having to re enter a lot of data.

One of your technicians installed preview version 1612 and I thought that it had solved the problem However I have been away for several weeks and returning to catch up with my Moneydance entries find that the problem still happens.

These issues are intermittent and I try to ensure that I open the correct file and close Moneydance down in exactly the same way each time I use it.

However I notice that it usually starts at a time when on opening Moneydance, instead of opening in full screen mode, just a small bar opens in the left hand side bottom of the screen. Moneydance is the only program this happens with. Does this gives a clue to the cause?
Please help - I think I'm losing my mind!

I have heard of this issue. It seems that the screen position of the MD window gets confused and moved to a weird position. Do you use an extra monitor with your Mac Book Pro sometimes? That can cause the MD program to not be clear as to where to open the window.

As to missing data it seems that you are maintaining multiple versions of your data file. In the MD help menu there is an item that shows you your data folder. See how many files you have there and what are the modification times. I am not sure why MD is making multiple copies it may be permissions? Other users opening the MD file??
