Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater
I have installed the Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater extension V1002 and it seems to be downloading stock prices every time I start MoneyDance, at least the first time every day. I have it set to only update Weekly and the Next Update date is set to 10/14/2017 but it still updates every time I start MoneyDance.

I now seem to be getting errors trying to download current prices. It gives a response code of 403 and says Forbidden. Is there a problem with the updater now?

Hi Kevin,
Unfortunately Yahoo has turned off their price/rate downloading to third party apps. Our lead developer is working on a solution now and we hope to have an update available for the extension within a day or two. Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. I have flagged this discussion so we can notify you as soon as this has been resolved and the update is available.

I have to say it's things like this that brings me so much joy as a MoneyDance user. Stuff changes, things don't always work and issues arise in all software. In the 3 occasions that's happened in my years of using MoneyDance I come to this site, can see the issue has been raised, and you've already responded and are working on a solution. You could not be more different than some of your much larger competition. You guys rock. Thank you!

Except this has been a problem for over a year...not something which just stopped yesterday - many of us have been manually updating prices for months now and there are dozens of threads about this issue. But today the exchange rate stopped as well which had been working fine......

Is something going on with this? I seem to be getting several quotes that come through but most still show as error. I am getting 4 of my stocks being quotes while the rest are errored out. Not sure why some would work and others not.

This is something that has happened since Nov 1 as Ian said, there hasn't been a long term problem. The current extension will download historical stock prices and ETFs if you set the historical price source to Google. Mutual funds will not update. This is why some seem to work and some not.
IK is close to coming up with a fix according to their posts on the Slack channel. This is changing to use a different information source (AlphaVantage) and there are some alpha versions that are being posted.

Hi All,
We have many open discussion regarding the Quotes and Exchange Rates extension issue and we're just working through the backlog. Please accept my apologies for the lack of an update from us thus far. Much of the information has likely been made available by our helpful forum members but I thought it best you hear from us directly.
Our lead developer has been working on adding additional services to the Quotes and Exchange Rates extension. We have had positive results with the free-to-use service Alpha Vantage. We have just pushed a new version of the Quotes and Exchange rates extension that will allow connections to Alpha Vantage.
If you would like to download prices and rates from Alpha Vantage via this new extension you will need to be running Moneydance 2017. At this time, until we release a new stable version, you will need to use the preview version of the program. For those who purchased Moneydance 2015 or more recent this will be a free upgrade for you.
If you have purchased Moneydance 2014 or older and you'd like to upgrade to the latest version you can enter your current license key into the 'Upgrading?' box on this page to redeem a 50% discount against the upgrade cost.
If you're unsure what version you have purchased, you can test your key in the 'Upgrading?' box linked above or retrieve your license key by entering your email address in 'LostKey?' field to the immediate left on the same page. If you're are still unsure, please raise a private discussion and we'll have a look for your purchase history.
The latest preview version is Moneydance 2017.6 (1652) and can be downloaded from here.
The new Quotes and Exchange Rates is available in Moneydance via Extensions -->Manage Extensions. You can also download the newer version from here -
https://infinitekind.com/tmp/yahooqt.mxt
Drag the downloaded .mxt file onto the Moneydance program window. Select 'Install Extension' and the new extension will then be available within the Extensions menu.
The new extension pulls data from https://Alphavantage.co which is a free service that specifically provides an API for people and apps to retrieve prices for exchange rates and security prices.
When using the updated extension for the first time, you’ll be prompted to visit the Alpha Vantage site to claim an API key. You can then enter the key into Moneydance to begin downloading your prices and rates.
We're still working on finding and adding additional sources, but for now the Alpha Vantage support should handle the vast majority of our customer's usage.
If you encounter any issues with the new extension please raise a new discussion thread where we can troubleshoot further.
I am assigning this discussion as private as we have many public support threads for the same issue. This thread will remain open but if you would like to post publicly on this issue, you can find the below thread that we are keeping open for this purpose -

I had to download the .mxt file. The MoneyDance extension Manager didn't
say it had an updated one. I was able to install it though.

Installed this using the internal updater (had to delete and re-install as it didn’t actually see the new version), but downloading quotes fails with the untrusted-certificate errors shown below.
EDIT: Must install late Moneydance version, not merely 2017 (which I thought I had).

I got it to work by downloading build 1652 via a link from some Google result.

I downloaded 1657 of MoneyDance and 1012 of the updater. Now I can't seem to control when it downloads. It disregards that I set it to download weekly and the date of the next update. It updates when I open MoneyDance and then every time I open the updater to look at the setting. It won't stop.
13 Posted by Kevin C on 19 Dec, 2017 12:42 PM
Every time I open the updater from Extensions and then close the dialog it starts downloading prices regardless of what the frequency is set to or the next update date. There are several errors listed in the errlog.txt file which I'm including here.

I see it too. Happens on weekly update setting. I normally have daily and that works as expected. However, I have not tried the monthly, quarterly or yearly options. Clearly something is wrong in the time/date calculation.

I have v1015 installed. It now randomly starts updating stock prices even though I have it set to not update.
16 Posted by aj2wilson on 08 Apr, 2018 09:22 AM
Are the support staff taking any notice of this or do they think they have fixed the problem and don't care about its random updates? I'm not installing it until it is stable and working as intended which is a bore but at least I know my prices are updated when I want them
17 Posted by Kevin C on 30 Apr, 2018 11:31 AM
I am now getting errors trying to update stock prices. I get error 503 Service Unavailable for each stock it tries to check.

I am not support staff, just a user.
Looks like the Alpha Vantage site is down.
If you continue to have problems try the free stand-along program. See post 122 this thread http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/3036-third-par...
to obtain prices and import into Moneydance.
Hope this helps.

If the extension is more trouble than it worth remove it under EXTENSIONS - MANAGE EXTENSIONS
Hope this helps
