moneydance losses keyboard and mouse input on lubuntu 11.10

Once in a while, MoneyDance looses its ability to accept keyboard and mouse input.

I think this happens after some inadvertent sequence of keystrokes that I have entered.

I can't find a way to get focus back. I can move the moneydance window around the screen by using the mouse to grab the top border of the window.

Is there a way to restore keyboard focus?

What key sequence could cause this?

I think this is a bug.

When moneydance is in this state, I cannot close its window.

What happens when you choose File > Quit?

Check if Moneydance is waiting to record something. A weakness in Moneydance operations is appearing to do something it does not complete. Elsewhere I've asked the "Done" button in a split transaction be reworded to "Close Split Window" to make it clear clicking "Done" is not completing the operation. I'm guessing what you are doing is trying to keyboard added information when Moneydance is waiting for a Return key to confirm an entry.

    Hi Roy,

It does sound like there's a child window being inadvertently opened possibly via a keyboard shortcut you're accidentally hitting and locking input on the main window (including the close function).

Try doing Alt + Tab (cycling through open windows) to see if you can find a child window of Moneydance when this occurs (and check other virtual desktops in case it's popped up onto one of those and doesn't come up with Alt + Tab).

Please let us know if this doesn't work and we'll continue to explore options and file a bug report if that turns out to be the case.

I the problem arises when I am mousing in the category window.

After the problem arises, no mouse or keyboard interactions work. So in particular, I cannot choose File > Quit.

I don't think MD is waiting to record something.

I can't find the MD process after running the ps command. It's as if the process has terminated and the window is still displayed.

This behavior happened twice yesterday. The fix was to log out and then log back in, but that destroys all my other work in process.

The good news is that after logging in, MD offered to recover my saved session and that worked.

Is there a way to stop MD without logging out?

    Hi Roy,

To stop Moneydance without logging out, you should be able to use the program 'xkill'. In a terminal or in the run dialog (usually accessed by pressing Alt + F2) type:
    xkill
then enter, and your cursor should change into an X and then whatever window you click will be terminated.

Please let me know if this works for you.

I am having the same problem. At first I could still use the keyboard entry, but now I can't do anything except close MoneyDance using the Task Manager. I've rebooted and restarted MoneyDance several times, but I still can't do anything in the program.

    Hi Lise,

What operating system, version of Moneydance, and version of Java are you using? The last two can be found by going to Help -> Console window.

I fixed it. It was the mouse.
