repeated carraige returns ?

I am using a Widows 7 computer with Moneydance 2011 r2 Build 803.
On entering the details of a transaction I press the 'enter' key to confirm and in most cases this works without a problem. This action is accompanied by the sound a 'bell/ring' of an old style cash register being operated. However on about five occasions over the past 18 months I have had repeated operation of the enter key accomanied by repeated 'bell/ring' sounds. The only way of stoping it was to close down the application.

The obvious solution would be a 'sticking key' however it has never occured in any other application and I have tried to induce the fault with the 'enter' key in my word processor application without success.

I wonder if anyone else has had this or similar problems?

    Roy,

This is the first time I've heard of this issue, but it's definitely something we'd like to look into. Could you please let me know what OS, version of Java, and version of Moneydance you are running? This information is available in the Help->Console Window menu item, and will help us to better diagnose the issue. It would also be helpful to know if there was anything in common when you experienced the issue- clearly you were entering a transaction but was it always a split transaction, or setting up a check to print, or something else that made those transactions different? I know it's probably unlikely you remember in that much detail, but anything you remember would be helpful.

The information requested is as below

    Starting Moneydance 2011r2 (803)

    Settings Folder: C:\Users\User\.moneydance

    OS: Windows 7 6.1 x86

    Java: 1.6.0_31 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)

The problem seems to occur when I open an existing transaction in a register
with a double right click on the mouse to make changes to that transaction
and then on closing it with the 'enter' key the 'repeated carriage returns'
then occur but as I said very infrequently.

    Thanks

    Hi Roy,

I have a hunch that this might be related to your sound system in some way. Try turning off the 'ca-ching' sound in Moneydance by going to File -> Preferences, under the "General" tab, and unticking the box "Beep when transactions change". This will make it so that Moneydance doesn't make that sound when modifying or creating transactions.

Yes I will try this - may be some time before I know if this is the solution
due to the infrequent nature of the problem.
    Thanks

    Hi Roy,

Thanks for the update. I'm going to close this thread for now (which helps us keep track of our support inquiries), however should the problem occur again in the future you should be able to reopen and add to it or, should that fail for some reason, simply start a new thread and we'll try and track down the problem.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!
