Wells Fargo Accounts Error 2000
I am a relatively new Moneydance user and had successfully set-up on-line banking with Wells Fargo Bank. (I had received about 3 months of data and was running on-line banking every few days with no problems. I was prompted to change my userid for these accounts at WellsFargo.com. made that change, and have accessed my account information at WellsFargo.com. On Moneydance I updated my userid to match what i set on WellsFargo.com. Since then I have gotten the Error 2000 every time I attempted online banking on MoneyDance. . What can I do to fix this problem?

That sounds very odd.
I used to bank with WellsFargo and had online access to my account at wellsfargo.com.
I can see being prompted to change your password, but not your userid.
Once you've created online acces to your account at wellsfargo.com, the userid is fixed to that account. That can never be changed unless if you cancel online access to you Wells Fargo account.
The only changeable variable on wellsfargo.com is your password.
That all said, it sounds as though your Direct Connect access for your account may have been deactivated when you changed your userid. You might want to go into your account at wellsfargo.com and reactivate Direct Connect access.

Hi Ben,
It's not uncommon for direct-connect servers and web servers for any given financial institution to require different credentials to access them. There are instances where the required credentials are the same however.
Having said that, have you tried using your old credentials to access the direct-connect server?

James and Kevin
thanks for the response.
James, the request to change my userid was made because I was using the default userid, my SSN-- never a good idea. Direct Connect seems to be active as mobile banking is enabled and I can do online banking from my cell phone
Kevin, I had tried the old credentials yesterday; unfortunately, they didn't work and Wells Fargo confirmed that the credentials need to match.
So still have the problem. One possible solution: Should I deactivate my WFB accounts on Moneydance and re-establish new WFB accounts? If so, is there a way to move the transactions from the deactivated accounts to the new accounts? Presumably, I could then delete the deactivated accounts.
thoughts on this or any other solutions would be appreciated
thanks

Hi Ben,
I would try either 'changing' or 'disabling' and then reenabing online access to the account.
To do so open MD to the account in question, then from the menu bar click on 'Online' > 'Set Up Online Banking'. In the resulting form, you can opt to 'Change' or 'Disable'
When 'changing' or reenabling, use the 'New Connection' button even though your financial institution may already be listed in the drop-down list. This will help to ensure that you are using the latest connection information.

Having been a Wells Fargo client, my suggestion for you to go into your account at wellsfargo.com and reactivate Direct Connect access still is a good idea.
When I had setup online access with Wells Fargo, it was not setup using my SSN as the userid. I was able to setup access using the userid of my choice. Then again, I had setup online access to my account online, not at a Wells Fargo bank, so I was never prompted to change my userid.
Cell Phone access and Direct Connect access to your account at Wells Fargo are two separate features as far as Wells Fargo banking is concerned.

Thanks for the feedback. I have talked with WFB and they tell me that Direct Connect is enabled. In addition all efforts involving disabling or changing online banking with my present WFB accounts have not worked. Here's what I have done: As a trial I created another WFB Checking account in Moneydance and got online banking with WFB to work. I can easily import all transactions from the disabled account but have lost all category assignments for those transactions.
Any thoughts or feedback on this and on how might get the Category assignments into the new account
thanks

Hi Ben,
The following are the instructions that you should follow to transfer the txns from you old account to the new account:
You'll need to create the new Account of the proper 'Type' and then use 'Batch Change' to move the txns from the old Account to the new Account.
Always make sure that you have a recent backup or copy of your data file before using 'Batch Change'.
Batch Change is a powerful tool. If a mistake is made using Batch Change with multiple txns selected, things can get ugly in a hurry.
1) Create the new Account. Tools > Accounts > New
2) Next, Tools > Accounts, from the resulting table, locate the old Account that you want to move the txns out of and right-click it (CTRL-click for Mac). Choose 'Open in New Window'.
3) This will open the register for the old Account in a new window. Select (highlight) any txn, then use key-combo CTRL-A. All of the txns in the register should now be selected (highlighted).
4) Right click (CTRL-click for Mac) any of the highlighted txns, choose 'Batch Change', then 'Account'. From the resulting 'Account' drop-down list, select the name of the new Account that you created in Step 1.
This process will remove all txns from the register of the old Account and move them to the register of the new Account.
You can then close the New Window.
You can then delete the old Account.
Again make sure you have a backup or copy of your data file before attempting this process.

Thanks for the instructions
I successfully got the transactions transferred from my old to new checking account and am getting normal downloads into that new account.
I then moved to my savings--no problem with transferring transactions from the old to new account. However, when I did a download from WFB savings I received my checking account transactions in the Moneydance savings account. When I reviewed the savings account info somehow the checking account number had replaced the savings account number.
I set the account up again only to have the same thing happen
thoughts?
Any thoughts on this one

Hi Ben,
It sounds like your Savings account is not 'mapped' properly.
The following instructions were originally posted by forum member Oilcan. In his example he uses three E-Trade accounts just substitute the name of your financial institution for E-Trade.
-Begin Copy-
Your accounts are not mapped properly (in other words, one E*Trade account is pointing to each of your Moneydance accounts).
Disable the Online Set-up for the three problem accounts. Then you will need to re-enable them. Once you have entered your ID and Password click Ok and wait (do not click next). You need to see a window that will display - "Please choose the account you wish to use" - which are your E*Trade accounts listed in a drop down list. If you bypass this window - your Moneydance Account will map to the first account on this list. Sometimes you will need to just wait for this window to pop-up as it can take several seconds. If you click 'Next' you will likely bypass this important window. Believe me I am speaking from experience.
Oilcan
-End Copy-
Don't forget to double check your account number and routing number for each account.
I feel bad for you; all of this effort essentially just to change a user ID and password . On the bright side, you're getting a real education in the inner workings of MD. :)
Let us know how it works out. OK?

Kevin
Thanks for all of the help on this. Everything is working. You are right -- a bit of a hassle but I learned quite a bit about how Moneydance works.
I appreciate the quick response and support from you and others on the forum

Hi Ben,
I'm glad to hear that you're up and running again. At least it was not all for nil.
