transfers, duplicates, transfers disappearing...

Hi - I've had this Moneydance program for a couple years now and am finally just getting tired of all the little glitches. I don't know what the cause is or how to remedy it. I'm using it on my Macbook Pro running OS 10.11.6. I regularly transfer funds from my checking account into a few different savings accounts but the program really seems to go wacky over transfers. I download regularly from my credit union - weekly or more. What's happening is some transfers show up twice in the destination account; then when I delete the extra entry, it (sometimes) deletes it also from the originating account, so the original transfer is now gone. Sometimes a transfer of several weeks ago that has already come into MD and been attributed to a category just vanishes. I have discovered a few of these accidentally, when my accounts don't balance. It just seems crazy and that there's no clear pattern. Or I'm just getting so annoyed and frustrated by it that I'm not noticing the patterns. I really need this program to just work but I'm spending ridiculous amounts of time picking through the ledger trying to reconcile it with the MD -- not very successfully. What am I missing here?? At this point, doing it all by hand would save me time.

    There are certain combinations of Moneydance version, configuration and environment where members of the forum have seen some strange events occurring.

    To be able to help you though I think we need to get some more information on your setup, the questions I am thinking of are:

    1. What version of Moneydance are you using, please include the build number in your response.

    2. Are you syncing with any other device either a mobile device or another computer?

    3. Where are your Moneydance data files located on your machine? specifically i'm looking to see if you may have them in your dropbox folder or on some sort of shared drive.

    4. Your downloads. Are you using Direct Connect to automatically download the data from your Bank or are you manually downloading and importing the transactions. If you are manually downloading transaction files what format are the files in?

    The answers to these questions should at least give us a bit more insight into your configuration.

    I would make sure that you have not duplicated any names in Moneydance i.e. a category should not have the same name as a bank or other type of account for example.

    Hi - and thanks so much for your response to me! I’ll try to answer your questions:

    Version: 2015.3 (1175) copyright 2014

    I’m not syncing with any other devices or computers. Just my copy of the program and my laptop. My spouse has a copy of this same licensed software on his windows laptop but neither of us have linked to each other or to dropbox or anything else. We each just download our stuff from the credit union and create our separate reports as needed…

    The md data files are on my hard drive. No dropbox involved in this.

    Downloads: I’m not sure what “Direct Connect” is but I think I may be using it. I generate or originate all downloads from the credit union from within the moneydance program. Online >> download all accounts - or a specific account.

    I’m wondering if there is a software update I’m missing. I don’t get prompts to download so I could be behind in that department.

    You are running a very old release of Moneydance 2015, so the first thing I would do is bring it up to date.

    You can download the latest release of this version from:

    http://infinitekind.com/download_2015.

    The fact that you are using 2015 rules out a number of common problems we have seen, Your method of downloading suggests you are using Direct Connect which should rule out a problem caused by using older file formats
