Error when attempting to start Moneydance
Gidday;
I have an error when starting Moneydance as per the attached error dialog. The opening splash image, with list of files opens OK, but when I select the required file, the error dialog displays.
Please advise;
thanks;
David

I am not support staff, just a user.
You don’t state which version/build of Moneydance you are running. See under FILE – ABOUT MONEYDANCE, for example the latest release is 2017.5(1639).
Assuming you have 2017 have you tried restoring from a backup.
In your welcome to Moneydance window click on “Import new account set” or if Moneydance opens then click FILE – RESTORE FROM BACKUP. In either case navigate to your latest backup. Auto backup naming convention is yourdatasetname.year-month-day.moneydancearchive if the latest backup through an error work backwards through your backups. Also, if you have followed good practice you will also have export backup, backups as well. Naming convention is yourdatasetname.yearmonthday-time.moneydancearchive
You don’t state which operating system your computer is using. In windows the default backup location is C:\Users.moneydance\archive\backup\
I would also update to the latest release of Moneydance 2017.5(1639) if you are not running it at https://infinitekind.com/download-moneydance-personal-finance-software
Hope this helps.

This seems to be a common error if MD is quit unexpectedly. It can be ignored and usually doesn't give an alert window. The only way to fix this is to look at the console log and then delete the internal offending transaction file.

Gidday Derekkent23 and sth;
Thanks very much, I was able to recover from backup as per Derek’s advice. I am a novice user, and don’t know about viewing console log and deleting transaction files.
I will also be upgrading my Moneydance … when I opened it I saw my version was definitely not the latest; and I am on Windows so finding the backup was relatively easy.
Thanks; David
