Reconcile error
I have used MoneyDance for more than 2 years without any
problems until today. I noticed that my checking account balance in
MD was much higher than it should be or is in reality. When open
the reconcile window the pre-filled "previous balance" amount was
some $2k higher than it should have been. When I previously
reconcilled this account all was fine so they correct amount shuld
have appeared as it normally does.
This seems to have occured with other accounts, such as credit card
accounts as well.
The discrepancy $ amount is not the same between different
accounts.
Any ideas for solution?
I am running OSX 10.6.8, MoneyDance 2010r3 (751)

Alan,
I've not heard of this happening too often and from what I do remember it had to do with someone mistakenly skipping a reconciliation and not realizing it. Can you confirm that that didn't happen? For instance if you go to the register for that account and set the filter at the top to display only uncleared transactions, does it look like you are missing any?
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

I have a problem with reconcile this month where the reconcile page shows the
total amount of deposits, but does not show any way to click on them as cleared.
Have I forgotten to do something? Is there a setting somewhere?
I am used to Quicken giving a full option to click each one, and an "as of" date
for every reconcile. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Tom,
If within the Reconcile window your Deposits are not visible, try resizing or maximizing the Reconcile window.

Thanks, Kevin! I never thought about that since I assumed it would open in a
fit-to-fill manner. I dragged the corner down and found they were there all
the time. Thanks so much again.

Hi Tom,
You're welcome.
It should, and from what I've read on these forums, it will, in the next Moneydance update.

Hi Jon, thanks for the reply.
I figured out what happenned: One of the categories was deleted by us (which I now understand deletes all the transactions in that category, even the cleared ones). No way to recover except to artificially adjust the beginning balance back to the correct value

Hi Alan,
Moneydance by default creates backup data files in the same directory as the main data file.
Look to where your main data file is stored for files with the same name as your data file except they will have their creation date appended to them.
See if you have one that is pre-dated to when you deleted the category.
To open it, remove the appended date.
