Unable to Download Extensions
I'm not able to download extension information from the Extension Manager. I get a java timeout unable to connect error. How do I get extensions otherwise?

Hi campbell.kevine,
Any firewalls stopping Moneydance from connecting?
Proxy?

I checked my firewall (ZonelAlarm Internet Suite) and made sure that the moneydance.exe had full permissions to the internet.
The error I'm getting is:
java.net.ConnectExceptiojn
Connection timed out: connect
I am running Windows 7 and Hughesnet satellite as my internet connection.

Hi campbell.kevine,
I've heard (from one person) how horrible Hughesnet is. I wonder if it's a issue with them. Do you otherwise have any problem connecting to the Internet?
I'll assume that ZA disables the Windows Firewall. Just to make sure, see if the Windows Firewall is blocking Moneydance.
You may want to try temporarily suspending ZA just to see if it is blocking MD. Of course doing so would probably re-enable the Windows Firewall
The timed out error smacks of a firewall or proxy issue.

I turned off ZoneAlarm and the Windows Firewall and now it does work. I turned on ZoneAlarm again and I wasn't able to download an extension. So it does appear that something in ZoneAlarm is preventing MoneyDance form connecting. Not sure what it is though.

Now I tried to setup my bank to allow online banking but I now get an error saying that
There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
Bank Name: Key Bank
The error code reported by the server was: 2003
ACCOUNT NOT FOUND
I'm using the same userid and password that I have in Quicken for this account. What else do I need to do?

Hi campbell.kevine,
Take a look at the following website, it appears that Key Bank charges a monthly fee for direct-connect access:
https://www.key.com/personal/online-banking/personal-online-banking...
You may be able to circumvent the fee by manually downloading your data and importing it into Moneydance.
Moneydance can easilly import OFX, OFC, QFX and QIF file formats. These file formats are often referred to as Microsoft Money and Quicken formats respectively. Moneydance can also import the CSV file format but it is a little more involved. Try to use one of the other formats.

Yes, I know they charge. I'm currently setup to download transactions into Quicken. I assumed that since I was already setup I could just attach MoneyDance since it uses the same protocol as Quicken. Di I still have to contact the bank and tell them I'm using MoneyDance instead of Quicken?
I also still time out if I have my ZoneAlarm running. Any ideas how to set ZoneAlarm to allow MoneyDance to connect to the internet?

I was able to setup my Discover card to download transactions and it worked fine. Not sure why I can't get Key Bank. As I said, I'm already enrolled in Key's online banking and I download transactions into Quicken. Do I have to call Key and tell them I'm using MoneyDance now?

Also, I'm still not able ot connect to the internet at all if I have ZoneAlarm running. Any ideas how to configure it to allow MoneyDance?

Hi campbell.kevine,
Look to the following thread in which the Key Bank customer needed to change their account type from Checking to Money Market to resolve the issue.
I'm not exactly sure what they did in order to change it to Money Market though. Maybe one of the Moneydance Support Staff can elaborate on that.
http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/financial-institution-dire...
If you do contact Key Bank, I would steer clear of telling them that you are using Moneydance. It is more likely than not that they have never heard of Moneydance and will automatically tell you that they don't support it.
As for ZA, you may need to allow access to your data file. Or you may need to allow acces to your username /.moneydance folder, where extensions are stored.
Understand that I don't know and I am totally speculating and that you could be putting your system at risk by allowing access to these files or folders.
You might be better served looking to ZA support in that respect.
Personally, I use Windows' underrated firewall with MS Security Essentials.

Kevin. Thanks. That last post helped. I changed the type from checking to money market in the online setup dialogs where it asks for Routing # and acct. # there is a drop-down for account type. That's where you change it. I was then able to download the transactions.
Still have to turn off ZA though. Now I need to figure that out.
Thanks.

Hi campbell.kevine,
Excellent! You're welcome. I'm glad to hear that you got it worked out.
Post back if you figure out what you need to do with ZA, I would be curious to hear what you uncover. OK?

campbell.kevine,
Glad to hear it's all settling out for you. I would also be curious to see how you work out the issue with ZA, as it's not a program I'm familiar with. Thanks for using Moneydance, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

I am still not able to get MoneyDance to download anything (securities, extensions, account transactions, etc.) if I leave ZoneAlarm running. If I stop ZA and exit it then everything works fine. I haven't been able to talk to the ZA folks yet, my fault. But I just don't know what kind of settings I need in ZA to get it to work.

This site suggests that might be a known issue with Zone Alarm and Java 7. They recommend installing an older version of java.

Thanks. After reading this stuff it looks like, if I set the security for the Public Zone to medium the MoneyDance works. It appears to be some sort of a problem with Java 7.
Thanks for the help.

I uninstalled Java 7 and installed Java 6u35 and now MoneyDance works even with the security set to high.

Hi campbell.kevine,
Thanks for posting back with the ZA update.
Whodathunkit would be a Java issue?
Kudos to Ben Spencer for finding that out.

Now I have a new problem. I just tried to enter some new transactions into MoneyDance and when I hit Enter after entering the new transaction MoneyDance just disappears. It just closes. I have to restart it and when I get back in the transaction is not there. Could this be some sort of problem with removing Java 1.7? I have Java 1.6.35 installed now.

Hi campbell,kevine,
There was a past issue with entering a txn and having MD freeze. Yours may be a variation of this issue.
Open Moneydance, Look in 'Preferences' on the 'General' tab.
Remove the check-mark next to 'Beep when transactions change'.
