Can I "fake" a Dropbox sync?

I'm playing with the trial version on my Windows 7 desktop. I want to sync the test transactions that I've entered on my PC across to my iPad and iPhone so that I can play with the mobile app as well but I can't get Dropbox sync to work.

I'm pretty sure that the problem is because my Dropbox folder is sort of(*) not in the default location and I see that this is a known issue. I'm only playing right now and from seeing how responsive and constructive support is here I'm thinking that I don't really want to bother right now trying to fix my problem, I'd rather just wait for the next (I hope) release where I can specify my Dropbox location explicitly and hopefully the problem will go away.

I do however want to at least have a quick play with the mobile apps so I'm wondering whether Moneydance on my PC is saving the necessary sync files somewhere on my PC hard drive, just not in my Dropbox folder. If so then a quick and dirty fix would seem to be to quit Moneydance on the desktop (just to be safe and make sure it's not holding any locks on the sync files), copy the sync files manually into my Dropbox folder, and then fire up Moneydance on the iPad at which point presumably it'll detect the sync files and use them to load my test transactions into my iPad app.

Is the above likely to work? Don't worry, I'm not using live data, I only want to have something on my iPad and iPhone so that I can play with the UI and I don't care that any iOS changes won't make it back to my PC or if it results in total data loss. If my horrible kludge will work then where should I look for the sync files on my PC and which files should I copy to my Dropbox folder?

(*) I say "sort of" not in the default location because it is in the default location relative to my home directory but my home directory itself is not in the default MS Windows location so that is maybe enough to confuse Moneydance sync.

Oops. 5 more minutes and I would have worked it out for myself. I found the "Window/Console Messages" option in the Moneydance desktop version and the console messages showed me the whole sync file creation process. Moneydance has saved my sync files in "C:\Users<User>\Dropbox.moneydancesync*" so I copied the .moneydancesync folder and contents to my real Dropbox folder. This failed to be seen by the iPad at first but once I killed Moneydance on my iPad using the multitasking menu and did a cold restart it found the files and loaded my transactions.

Looking forward to the update to the desktop version where it's possible to explicitly tell Moneydance where the Dropbox folder is!
