Back up restore

Please advise me on how to locate a back up restored from a damaged hard drive, I paid for a company to recover data on an old Mac mini that had a failing hard drive. I am unable to figure the naming structure and therefore have no idea which file is actually my financial data. I am attempting to pull this information from the hard drive used to recover the data on to a new MacBook Air.

    I am not support staff, just a user.

    The way data is stored and its naming convention changed with the introduction of 2015.
    Can you post the version you were using.
