syncing problems, reconciling balances, viewing by category

Hello!

I have many questions and it would much easier to work through them via phone, if possible.

1) I have tried to sync the data between two versions of MD, one on my computer and one on my partner's computer, under the same license. We attempted to use dropbox repeatedly but each time a blank data set would be imported into the MD on my computer. Finally, I was able to save and then upload the data from his computer onto mine but that still doesn't solve the syncing issue. This seems like the most complicated issue we're having and I would love some voice-to-voice support walking me through the process.

2) Any suggestions on how to proceed if the balance on our MD doesn't match our bank account balances? Obviously that's a result of human error and missing entries. How do we reconcile besides manually sleuthing?

3) How do we view the spending per category for each month? The graphs and charts have been helpful but say I want to know how much we've spent on coffee for one month, how do we zoom in on that?

Thanks for your help!

    1) Be sure you do not put the data file in the drop box. That will lead to problems and data corruption. Open the data file on the primary computer and enable syncing. I suggest using DropBox Folder type connection which will work even off line.
On the secondary computer. Open MD and then start a new file, when it asks where the file is select "Sync File" as an option and then the drop box folder.
    Read the section http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/syncing-and-sharing-data/syncing-wi... carefully.

    2) Are you downloading the transactions from the bank? Those that are matched are marked with a blue circle outline. Other than that, go back through your statements and find a place where the balances match and then go forward from there checking transactions.

    3) Ask for a "Income and Expense Report" for whatever period you want. Look at the possible reports. You can do it for the year and have an individual column grouped by month for example. It will report categories and totals for categories with subcategories. If you want a list of transactions included use the "detailed" report. The reports are normally listed in the left hand sidebar below all the graphs. You can memorize a report for quick access once you have what you want.
