How to I enable online banking if I'm using Moneydance with several accounts? One account is linked to bank of america but the two other accounts when I pull down the online button at the top only offers the download all accounts. ????

Go into each individual account that you created in Moneydance and you ought to see an option: Account > Edit Account. Be sure account numbers and routing numbers are all correct.

While in each individual account that you created in Moneydance, select Online > Set Up Online Banking.

While in each individual account that you created in Moneydance, select Online > Download ZZZZZZ Transactions

Ok. Now my problem is I'm only getting ATM data from bank of america. How do I get checking info in the down load from the bank?

    Hi,
When you download data from your bank Moneydance in time will start to guess what categories your different transactions should be coded as. But when you first start doing it, it does not know what categories to pick, so it will automatically assign the category that is at the top of the list of categories, usually 'ATM Withdrawal'. Could it be possible that this is what is happening, and that you are in fact getting all your data? If you look under the 'description' box it will usually say the merchants name and this will also tell you if things are downloading correctly.
    Sincerely,
    Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

    And, as a suggestion:
Do not rely solely upon downloading of transactions.

I suggest that you use Moneydance as you would a paper check register. Manually register transacations in the account ledger, choosing the category that best fits the transaction. Then, when Moneydance downloads transactions from your financial institution, the Merge process will suggest (under Merge Choices) the appropriate transaction for the download to Merge with.

    See attached screenshots for details.

James's advice is solid, and is exactly how I use Moneydance. While it's possible to only download transactions, I would suggest entering your spending manually as it happens, then matching/merging the transactions as they are downloaded. This is especially useful because there is often a 24-48 hour delay between a transaction happening and it being posted to BoA's server, so your account information may not be up to date if you're only downloading and not entering manually.

Good luck with your downloads, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

How much back data would I expect to get from BOA. Can I expect to start from 1/1/12 or do they only down load like a month back????

    Greg,

Most banks only offer 30-90 days for direct download, but I believe that BoA may offer a larger date range. You can also download files from their website (QFX, OFX, OFC, or QIF) and importing them into Moneydance- they generally offer a larger range of data there.

Best of luck with your downloads, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

    1. Log in to your BoA account on the Internet
    2. Navigate to the section where you can Download Transactions
    3. Choose a date range.
    4. Choose an appropriate file format. OFX=Microsoft Money, QFX=Quicken, or OFC. I would suggest keeping away from QIF. QIF format ought to be the choice of last resort.
    5. Follow the attached screenshots for importing the transactions into Moneydance. The screenshots are that of Capital One, but the method is the same for importing from any Financial Institution.
    6. Follow my previous post for Merging transactions.
    7. Select Account > Reconcile
    8. After you have finnished reconciling, select File > Save, or File > Save As if you have not yet crated and saved a Moneydance .md data file.

    Greg,

Well James did my job for me in this case- he's even more comprehensive than I would likely have been. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask, and good luck with BoA. I may be able to dig up some old instructions on downloading from their website if you have trouble (I'm a former account holder there.) Thanks for using Moneydance, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
