QIF Import Not Handling Fields Correctly

Hi,
I'm in the middle of switching to Moneydance and find when importing investment account information some of the fields are not being handled correctly. Here's what I am getting:
1. In the QIF, when the Action (N) is "NBuyXfr" the resulting transaction import has an Action of "Xfr". Of course, when the transaction is a "Xfr" the "Security (Y), Shares (Q) and Price (I)" fields are not imported. What I was attempting to do with the QIF was transfer funds from Salary:Paycheck and use those funds to buy shares in the Investments:Principal DT - 401K account.

The work around is to transfer the funds needed from Paycheck into Principal DT - 401K and then import the shares with a QIF where the Action is "NBuy".

  1. Regardless if the QIF has an Action (N) of "NBuy" or "NBuyXfr" the resulting imported "Memo" field is a concatenation of Description (P) and Memo (M)

No found work around.

Attached is a screen shot of the resulting imports and a Test QIF with two transactions having "NBuy" Actions and the same two transactions having "NBuyXfr" Actions.

Are these bugs or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks.

I am on a linux machine with Moneydance 2011r2 (803) running Java 1.6.0.21

    Hi sca957,

Are you getting the QIF file you're working with from a financial institution, another program, or creating it yourself? Or, even, are you modifying one that wasn't importing correctly?

I think the proper QIF format notations for BuyXfr and Xfr are NBuyX and NXi, respectively, so I would suggest trying to do a search and replace for those terms in your QIF file and then see if the file imports properly.

Scott - thanks for the quick reply...
I'm guilty as charged! I modified a downloaded QIF file and replaced NBuy with NBuyXfr as that's what I see in Moneydance. However, when I use NBuyX the import correctly transfers funds from the given account and makes the purchase of shares. THANKS!!

Now, for the other issue of a QIF imported investment transaction resulting in the "Memo" field being a concatenation of Description (P) and Memo (M) from the QIF, any thoughts there?

    Thanks again,
    Steve

This comment was split into a new private discussion: Import data from iBank

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask, if not, I'm sorry.

Thinking of moving from iBank to Moneydance. How can I import all of my data to Moneydance? I am using Mountain Liion.

    Hi Steve

I am afraid there isn't anything you can do about the concatenation of description and memo. This is a "feature" of the Moneydance investment QIF import that was added to support the many variations in the QIF format.

@us1234 I am importing my accounts using QIF format. Attached are some documents to help with the format of the file.
