Problem Downloading Chase Checking Account
Chase performed server maintenance on 11/13-15/2009. According to their support line, the maintenance has been completed. When I try to download transactions, I receive the following error:
**There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
There was an error communicating with the server. This could be
the result of a network problem, or the server may be offline or
not responding. Please try the operation again later.
Error Description: java.net.SocketException: Unexpected end of file
from server**
Downloads worked properly before the maintenance. Has anyone else encountered this error?
I'm running Moneydance version 2008r4 (640) with Linux.

Confirmed. Same problem.

I just called Chase. They admitted they screwed up the maintenance and ALL online banking using Quicken, Money, etc. is broken. Senior management has been notified and the techs are working on it. Just be happy you're not one of them. They've managed to annoy everyone using online banking via any program.

just set up moneydance and am trying the download feature for the first time with chase. iT acts as if my id/password is not right, but i use it online...is this related to the issue in this thread or am i missing somehting in the set up?

follow up to post#8 a friend told me i needed to have chase change my protocol from ms money to quicken so the downloads would work...so i called chase and that seemed to make sense to her, but since they were having severe system problems, she was unable to make that change for me...i was told to wait 72 hours and try again. i asked if she was going to change the protocol for me and she said no. i asked how would it work after the 72 hours if its still trying to give me ms money format, she said it probably wouldnt and that i should call back then. grrrr. Does this change of protocol sound familiar to anyone? thx

Hello everyone,
We've updated our connection information for Chase, so you should be able ot connect now. You will need to disable your current connection to Chase and then recreate it using the New Connection button on the Online Banking Setup screen. Choosing chase for the list of available banks will force Moneydance to download the updated information, which should then allow you to connect.
Please let me know if you continue to have connection problems after recreating your connection. I'm sorry for the temporary downtime.

Ditto, Jessica. Setting it up for Chase again worked perfectly. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response. I came on looking for a solution to my Chase trouble and got one!

I disabled online transactions for my two Chase accounts. When I select "New Connection," it downloads a new list. But when I select Chase from the list, I get the error:
"Error: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: Untrusted Server Certificate Chain"
I then tried to set it manually using:
https://ofx.chase.com
FID 10898
Org: B1
But that failed as well with the same error. Please help -- the Chase web site is a real hassle -- you have to have a code emailed practically every time you want to log in to download transactions

What about bank one accounts that are now Chase? My connection says bank one and was working until the maintenance. It still does not work

Mine still does not work. Bank One is what I had as the bank. For Chase visa

OK I disabled online banking for my checking, then setup a new connection to chase again, entered my password and I get this error now. Sounds like a certificate issue maybe? How can I clear this up?
A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.

To the people getting "Unexpected end of file" errors: You will need to disable your current connection to your bank and then recreate it using the New Connection button on the Online Banking Setup screen. To do so, you can follow these steps:
1) Select your bank account in Moneydance
2) Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu
3) Click the "Disable" button
4) Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu (again)
5) Click the "New Connection" button and select your bank and hit OK
6) Continue with the setup process, entering your username/password
7) Repeat steps 1-6 for each account
Make sure you pick new connection, even though your bank is still one of the connection choices after you disable it. Choosing your bank from the list of available banks will force Moneydance to download the updated information, which should then allow you to connect.
For those getting the SSL error: This error is due to a bug in Moneydance that was fixed in Build 642. If you are not using the most recent preview version (2008r4 Build 643), please update to that version. You can download the update from our website at http://moneydance.com/preview.

I still receive this error when I attempt to download transactions, and set up a new connection. I also spoke with Chase, and they do not support MD. What next?

The error code reported by the server was: 2000"

Thanks Jessica. That fixed my chase/amazon visa. Now on my new Regions checking, I'm also getting the "error code 2000"

Hi eric and videosteve,
Are your accounts enabled for direct connections with Chase? Most financial institutions will require you to enable your accounts for application-based online banking. If you have your financial institution set up your account as if you were using Quicken 2008 for Windows then it should also work with Moneydance since they use the same protocol. This is sometimes necessary as many banks don't yet recognize Moneydance or know how to deal with it.
Keep in mind that application-based online banking often requires a different login/PIN than the ones that are used for ATM or web-based banking. When you enable your account for access from Moneydance or Quicken, your financial institution should let you know what customer ID/login and PIN to use.

Harry,
This has been resolved. You need to reestablish Chase downloading. When you get to the selection of bank, click the New Connection button to reload the parameter file. It's working fine for me.
