Hi,

I have a problem that just seems to have started. I live in the UK so have to download my accounts direct from the banks website (unfortunately)

I normally enter my transactions via the IPhone app or direct into my Mac book. when I download transactions MD identifies the transaction and asks me to merge. Even though the amounts are the same, this is not happening to all transactions. I cannot identify any common reason why some do and some done except it has happened on all cheque numbers as well as some debit card. Can you help please.

    Hi Chris,

Since you're entering the transactions on your iPhone, are you making sure to sync it before downloading the transactions, so they can be merged? Are you using Wifi or Dropbox syncing?

    Hi
I use dropbox sync and yes it all syncs before I download: the transaction entered shows in the main register

The transaction matching algorithm compares a number fields between the manually entered transactions and the transactions downloaded from the bank. The result of this comparison produces a match score. A merge is only offered if the match score is above a certain threshold.

The amount needs to be an exact match.

The date needs to be close. You can configure how close under Preferences->Network.With the option "Only match transactions that are at most N days apart".

The other highly important field is the Description field. The description on the transaction downloaded from the bank needs to be a partial match to the description on the transaction in the register. It might be that the cheque transactions you are downloading don't have any description on them at all.
