securities in multiple investment accounts
I have 4 different investment accounts (a 401a, 403b, and 2 different 457f's) all with one investment company. All four have the same securities in them. I've been tracking them for the past 5 years with Quicken, but converted over to MoneyDance at the end of last year. Now that the first quarter is over, I've been trying to import my .ofx files from each one. The first one went fine, but now that I've associated the securities from that one I can't get it to work right for any of the last 3 accounts. The problem seems to be that now that I've "told" MD to associate these securities with the first ofx file, it won't let me pick them again for another ofx file. The only way I can figure to do it, is to have add each security 4 times, once for each account. But then I'll lose all my old data, and I'll essentially have 4 copies of data for each security in the future too.
Is there some way to make MD "forget" the first set of associations with the downloaded file so I can re-associate the securities for the next downloaded ofx file? Or am I completely off-base about how this is working? Or is there some other way to get it to work?

Basically what I'm trying to do is import 4 separate ofx files for each account. But the securities I need aren't available in the drop down menu to pick from. I end up picking none of the above, but then I have to change each entry to the appropriate security manually. Is there some way to make this work?
By the way, I'm using the Mac version of Moneydance on OS X 10.5.6

Hi, I apologize for the delay. You should pick "none of the above". That is correct. But you should only have to choose the appropriate security manually one time for each account.
I apologize for the delay getting back to you,
Brian

I've picked "none of the above". But I have to pick the appropriate security manually for every transaction. MD is not "remembering" the one I picked for the next time.

I just tried it again to refresh my memory about what is happening. What you suggested would work, if I did not already have old transactions with the securities in the account. After I pick "none of the above", then start to go through the imported securities, when I click on the security name in the transaction, now there are two of them with the same name. The old one with all my old transactions, and the new one just created by importing the ofx file. If I keep using the new one, then I end up with the same security listed twice. I have to switch them all to the "old" version of the security, then delete the "new" version of the security that doesn't have any transactions associated with it.
