Bug in reporting?
I have a category 'Personal Training ***'. I have budgeted $260 to this category since March (see attached file of budget set up). When I run the report for all transactions from Feb - August, it shows the correct budgeted amount (see attached file of report). However, I have made a payment associated with that category of $200 (see attached file of 200 transaction). This amount does not show up in the report as an actual. I have been loving moneydance (except lack of envelop budgeting, and other minor bugs), but this is making me not trust the data. Can you tell me what may be wrong, or what I need to do to make that amount show up?

Hi hatz4,
The $200.00 payment was made 07/03/2012, which is outside of the range of the two 'Personal Training' budget line items.
$200.00 - 03/01/2012 ~ 03/31/2012
$60.00 - 08/01/2012 ~ 08/31/2012

But if the report is run from 2/1/12 - 8/31/12, shouldn't it show up in that category? If I run the report for July alone when the money was spent, it should show a $-200.

Hi hatz4,
I would think that No, a 'Budget' report with specific date parameters for a certain category should not report on data outside of those specific date ranges.
An 'Income & Expenses' report should do so as long as the data falls within the designated date range.

But, the amount 'budgeted' shows up, why wouldn't any actuals? It ignores actuals within the timeframe that the report was run in because there was not a budget number for the month that the actual shows up in? It totals the multiple budgets just fine.
that really makes no sense. This was the only way i've been able to come close to envelope budgeting. That doesn't even seem reliable now. Any other suggestions than Excel?

For future reference, I found a workaround. I don't like it, but it works. To make ALL budgets and ALL actuals total for a given timeframe, then a budget of 0 needs to be set for every month.

Hi hatz4,
Your 'Budget Report' correctly displays the 'Total' amount budgeted for 'Personal Training' for March AND August. $200 and $60 respectively. $260.00.
On a happier note; envelope budgeting is slated to be included in Moneydance 2013.
