Find and Replace left out a transaction

I attempted using the Find and Replace to get all tags of, "Cleaning:Soaps, Laundry, Clean, etc" this year. The Find result left out a transaction containing this tag in January (See screen shot of Register transaction on 1/11/18, showing the split with the Tag of "Cleaning:Soaps, Laundry, Clean, etc"). However, the Find and Replace does not show this transaction (see screen shot showing all the other transactions with the tag, "Cleaning:Soaps, Laundry, Clean, etc" but NOT the transaction on 1/11/18.

I am running Moneydance side-by-side of Quicken and the Quicken Find DOES show this transaction on 1/11/18 (See screen shot). What am I doing wrong?

The build of find and replace you are using is out of date. latest build is v1213. I vaguely remember that one of the bug fixes was to do with splits but can’t be sure as I can’t find the post were support mentioned this.

    Worth a try.

Thanks. I just updated my Find and Replace but still have the same prob. Regardless, how did you know mine was out of date cuz the updated one looks the same as what I had. Maybe the update didn't work? In Manage extensions, I saw the "Update" button so I clicked on update then restarted Moneydance but the find and replace still looks the same

In your screen shot on the bottom line of Find and Replace it reads 1210. On mine it reads 1211 however I believe Sean has forgot to update this reference to v1213 on the last two build updates. You can also download the extension from https://infinitekind.com/extensions
And install it manually, drop it into the side bar after uninstalling the installed build. However I think it is in fact the same build you get by update button in extension manager.

    Hope this helps

    Hi shiner03,

    Q. Is the 1/11/2018 the only transaction that is part of a split?

If so, try check-marking the options on the F&R extension to 'Consolidate Splits' and / or 'Splits as Memos' to see if it helps resolve the issue.

Thanks but Consolidate Splits didn't do anything.

After further review, the Find and Replace apparently does not see some of the matched criteria carried over from my Quicken Import.

The transaction on 1/11/18 continued to be missed by the Find and Replace. So I went into the actual transaction to confirm that the tag was identical to the tag I was searching for in the Find and Replace, and it was identical but still was missed by the Find and Replace. Then, still in the actual transaction, I merely highlighted that tag (not changing it, just highlighted it), clicked Done and clicked Return to record the transaction (unchanged, just re-entered it). I went back to the Find and Replace window that I left open, clicked FIND again and magically, the Find and Replace finally saw this 1/11/18 transaction.

To confirm this problem, I did a Find and Replace on this same tag, but now in 2017. I found the same problem. Running Quicken side-by-side, my quicken find showed 43 matches whereas Moneydance only showed 6 matches. In Moneydance, I randomly chose one of the missing 37 unmatched Moneydance transactions (as my Quicken showed), opened the split, highlighted the tag, clicked Done, then clicked Return to record the transaction as I described above, and only then did it show up in Moneydance Find and Replace. Could this be a bug?

    I'm a fellow user.

I'm more inclined to think that there may be some sort of funny character in the text string - a non printable or extended character. From one of the problem transaction you could try to copy the tag (before you close and thus save the transaction) and pasting it in to find and replace and see if it finds any of the errant transactions.

I tried that but it did not reveal any odd characters. The tag is identical to those that the Find and Replace DOES locate.

Although it may look the same the fact that it cannot initially find it but does after you do a further save suggests that Moneydance is changing the entry in some way, which is why it sounds like some sort of non-display character that is being stripped out.

Just, ACK... You have several different tags that are almost identical.
    Cleaning:Soaps, Laundry, Clean, etc
    Cleaning:soaps, Laundry, Clean, etc
    Cleaning, Soaps, Laundry, Clean, etc
    Cleaning:Soaps, Laundry

Are the 4 that I see. However, in the Find and replace different tags are separated by commas. You have several commas in your tags themselves leading to further confusion.

The quicken register has all the items with single consistent "categories" which makes it easier to find. You should consistently find the different tags and replace them with consistent new tags without commas.
