Ok here is the situation.
I was syncing between computers.
I no longer have access to the original computer or files.
My dropbox account is now disconnected from moneydance.
So I have the secondary file and no longer connected to dropbox.
I would like to start syncing again
On the active file/computer if I click File>syncing nothing happens.
Program freezes for 10 seconds
Tried the convert secondary to primary python script but no joy.
Thanks for any help

    Hi Jim,

I believe you took the correct steps by attempting to run the python script, I'm sorry to hear this didn't work. Can you confirm the version of Moneydance you are using? You can check this within Moneydance by navigating to Help --> About Moneydance. Can you also let me know what happens when you try to run the script? Do any errors display?

I've attached the python script "md2017_convert_secondary_to_master.py" to this discussion so we can try again. Before proceeding, please back up your Moneydance data set, just in case something goes wrong. You can create a backup using the File --> Export Backup menu option.

To use the .py file, first save it to your computer and then follow these steps:

    1. In Moneydance, select Window --> Python Scripting.
    2. In the window that opens, select 'Open Script' then navigate to the .py file wherever you saved it on your system.
    3. Select 'Run' to execute the file.
    4. Wait a few moments until you see a message on screen, confirming the script has run successfully.

Once completed, navigate back to File --> Syncing, and you should now be able to select the required sync method.

Can you try following the above steps and let me know the results?

Will try again. I did get a message indicating the script ran successfully.
I feared I bunged it up by disconnecting my dropbox account before I knew about the script. If that is not the case a rerun is in order. Will let you know.

Repeated. Same result. File --> syncing button is not functional.
    Just freezes for a while

So I started a new file and imported the file above (which has data back to 1993) and the sync problem resolved. At least the File --> syncing button appears to work as expected.
Is anything lost by this approach?

Could you explain in more detail what you mean by "started a new file"? Was this done using FILE - NEW - CREATE NEW FILE?

"and imported the file above". Was the file a Moneydance data set, a Moneydance backup or ? and how did you do this.

    Thanks

My current file had the "syncing" option frozen even after I ran the py script.
I exported this file to a backup and removed the original from the data directory.
Then I opened moneydance and the new file dialog opens
I chose the middle option "import from a qif or moneydance file" etc
I then selected the file that I had exported above.
The new moneydance data file created had the old password and seemed unchanged except the syncing option was no longer frozen. Seems to be working normally and nothing is obviously lost that I can see. Maybe support would know if truly nothing is lost.

I experimented and as expected when I picked a file I had not run the py script on the syncing option was no longer frozen but the file was still a secondary file and options were greyed out.

    Hi Jim

In his post 1 above Ian O missed out one step he should of added

    1. Close Moneydance and then reopen it.

Then at least on the testing I have done you can navigate back to File --> Syncing, and you should now be able to select the required sync method.

    Hope this helps

Thanks Derek. Did that and also rebooted several times with no luck. New data file set method is working though.
