I have located the archives of my data. The newest one is dated 2018-07-06 and 5 others. What is the process for restoring this archive? I have version 2017.7.1 for Mac.

To restore a backup use FILE - RESTORE FROM BACKUP
When you FILE – RESTORE FROM BACKUP you do not overwrite your existing data set, a new data set is created with the naming convention – from manual backup yourdatasetname-yyyymmdd-tttt.moneydance the date time code taken from the backup file - from auto backup yourdatasetname (plus at number) e.g. yourdatasetname 2.moneydance The default data set location can be found under HELP – SHOW DOCUMENT FOLDER. You can rename a restored data set with Moneydance closed as you would any other folder provided you retain “.moneydance” extension. A data set is a folder not a file containing other folders and files. When you open Moneydance it will open in the “Welcome to Moneydance” window with the data set name listed on the right.

Thank you Derek. I fully understand your method to restore the archived file. The problem I am now having is that under my username folder there does not display the Library folder when doing the FILE - RESTORE FROM BACKUP.
I can see the Library folder when a go in through the Mac search function. I can see the entire path to the archives. But the Library folder does not appear when accessing it through the program.
Any clues?

I am a Windows user so am not familiar with Mac file structure. To locate the default backup location, click on HELP – SHOW ARCHIVE FOLDER and the look in the backup folder. If for any reason you can’t navigate to this folder when using FILE – RESTORE FROM BACKUP try copying the backup file to a location you can see.

I think I need to open a new incident reflecting that the Library folder does not appear when doing the Show Archive Folder as the archive files are deep into the Library folder and a lot of secret and mysterious things happen in the Library folder so I am hesitant to move and rename files residing there.

Yes the archives are kept in a sandboxed version of the Library folder for security and prevent Apps from getting access to files they shouldn't.
It is save to COPY a file like your archive file out of the library folder. (it is also safe to move it, you just won't have that archive found by MD).

Thanks sth, I have opened a new problem asking why ShowArchiveFolder doesn't take me to the Archive folder and doesn't show me the Library folder to enable me to navigate down to the Archives.
I would be nervous moving files around below the Library level. It is not for the faint of heart.

In the finder you can get to the Library folder by holding down the option key and selecting Go->Library
I don't see the other thread, but, the Moneydance menu Help->Show Archive Folder will show you the default Archive folder not where you may have saved any particular archive. So it takes you to "the" archive folder and perhaps not "your" archive folder. It is a different folder than what is set as the Backup Folder in your Moneydance preferences.
I agree the Library folder has gotten a lot more l confusing since Apple introduced the "Container" directory hierarchy.
