Hi luis

If you are running the latest build of Moneydance and the v1018 of Q & ER, then it’s as good as it gets with that setup.

I have given up on the Q & ER extension.

I am now using a free stand-alone program that was originally developed to help out users of MS Money when Microsoft stopped supporting that product. The program is in java, like Moneydance and thus runs on Windows, Mac and Linux computers.

I have taken a guess on the symbols for the three securities you mentioned and entered them into the stand-alone program, see screen shot.

Take a look at his thread and download the PDF outlining how to use the program and link to download the program. Post 236 in this thread.
http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/3036-third-par...

Let us know how this program performs for you and post if you have any problems setting it up and I will get you up and running.

It’s a good idea to click on the “SUBSCRIBE TO UPDATES” button to you are cheap up to date including when new builds are available.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/458393472018-08-05T16:06:47Z2018-08-05T16:06:47ZSecurity Price updater not working

It looks like AlphaVantage has changed the timing criteria again for free downloads. It now times out after 4 stock prices. The page https://www.alphavantage.co/premium/ says that it allows 5 prices each minute but they may have adjusted that to push folks to pay for a "premium" API key. It may be a cat and mouse game to try to stay within AVs continually moving target for free service. This was just the kind of thing that Infinite Kind was trying to avoid by not scraping web pages to get around the Yahoo blocks as hleofxquotes does. Sigh.

In certain high-frequency use cases that exceed our standard call-frequency limit (5 requests per minute), we offer a dedicated, premium API key which allows various tiers of API calls per minute. ... This premium API key is priced exactly at the cost charged by our cloud hosting and infrastructure provider.

Given the pricing structure, I doubt that this is the cost of the cloud hosting. I can get a lot of hosting infrastructure for that price! In fact it seems that they mean each subscriber pays the whole cost of hosting!

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/458393472018-08-06T00:09:46Z2018-08-06T00:09:46ZSecurity Price updater not working

Just checked and wrote a script to download files with error checking and repeats. Seems that the wait is now activated after every 4 downloads!

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/458393472018-08-07T15:30:10Z2018-08-07T15:30:10ZSecurity Price updater not working

I appreciate the help from the two users who replied, but I am waiting for the support staff of Moneydance to chime in.

Is this going to be fixed or not? If not, then i will need to look for another program. Might even need to go back to Quicken.

I don't feel like the workarounds that were proposed are something I should have to employ. Either have this integration built in or don't. Don't do a half ass job.

luis.m.dominguez34tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/458393472018-08-16T03:42:30Z2018-08-16T03:42:30ZSecurity Price updater not working

So it has been a week since I started this thread and no response at all from IK.

Guess they are not the software company I thought they were and are not standing by their product.

At least they should contact me and let me know they are doing something, even if they are not going to support this any longer.

But to do nothing and let me and many other users spin on this error is terrible. This was the worst $50 i have ever spent.

luis.m.dominguez34tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/458393472018-08-17T13:03:07Z2018-08-17T13:03:07ZSecurity Price updater not working

I do appreciate all of the community recommendations, but stock price updates have been a part of the product since I started with the 2011 version. I only updated to 2017 recently, because that was the only official way to get stock prices, and now that does not even work.

I'm mostly frustrated with IK -- the inability to download stock prices has been the most talked about issue on this site for months now -- and I have not seen one response from them.. Why would they not acknowledge the problem and give us an idea of what they are planning as a solution? Or just say they will not be supporting stock price updates... something, anything? That is is really bad customer service, to say the least.

infotag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/458393472018-08-17T22:11:22Z2018-08-17T22:11:22ZSecurity Price updater not working

I'm a fellow user.

If you are not satisfied with the support you are receiving I can only suggest you do what people should initially do whenever they are dissatisfied and that is complain to the management.

In the case of Moneydance that means Sean Reilly and his email is

sreilly (at) infinitekind (dot) com

Yes the quality of support being shown of late, well in quite a while in my opinion, is bad, it reflects badly on the support people, badly on the product and badly on the company and in the long run could cause the company to fail, I'd rather see the company and the product succeed. As some one who frequents these forums and chimes in with suggestions where I can I know I'm frustrated with the current situation.

TiK is not to blame for AlphaVantage, what their business model was was questioned at an early stage, I think we are now starting to see their intention and I question their ethics in how they have gone about it. Where TiK has failed is in their complete silence, a cardinal rule of support is to acknowledge problems and keep the customer informed, most customers are not unreasonable.

Perhaps enough loud voices may see some changes.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/458393472018-08-22T15:02:18Z2018-08-22T15:02:18ZSecurity Price updater not working

Hi All,

Sorry to hear you're encountering issues while using Moneydance. Alpha Vantage have introduced a new premium service, the details of which can be seen on their website here - https://www.alphavantage.co/premium/

We needed to make some adjustment in the extension so it can accommodate this new service and prices can download smoothly. Downloading may appear a bit slower in the new version but shouldn't result in errors, this is because Alpha Vantage's free service allows 5 requests per minute. We have just published v1020 of the extension. This version should improve things for some customers but we're still tweaked the extension and hope to release an optimised version soon. I'll ensure you'rel notified when this new version is available.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused by this issue.

That's a bit much for me so I guess I'll have to continue with maintaining a portfolio on Morningstar's website, exporting my stock/fund prices to Excel and then importing a csv file to Moneydance using Mike Bray's security price loader. Because it's less convenient I'll probably only do it once a week now. Bummer!

I hope that that is not the long term solution/goal for this problem -- for each MD user to pay Alpha Vantage roughly $240-$720 a year to get stock quotes! For me, just to get 60 stock quotes - once a day? I don't think so!

It don't really have a problem paying for the service -- like $20 a year - maybe. Not 5 times (or more) than the cost of the software that requires it!

Have you reached out to Alpha Vantage to negotiate some kind of integration deal that would be integrated into MD? That would seem like a logical solution, rather than making each user deal with AV... Just a thought...

info
