Issue with Deposits and Debits
I have two types of checking account transactions for a specific credit union:
(a) recurring interest deposit from the Credit Union (b) recurring mortgage payment to the Credit Union
Item (a) is recorded as a deposit (as shown in the Check# column). Item (b) is recorded as a transfer (as shown in the Check# column) with splits (in the category column).
Whenever I record a new deposit I enter the date, the word "DEPOSIT" and type the description as CREDIT UNION NAME. MoneyDance immediately assumes that, despite the DEPOSIT tag, this will be a mortgage payment and prompts me for the split information.
Why can't MoneyDance be smart enough to know the difference between a Deposit and a Debit?

Rogers,
I apologize for the long delay in our response, I am embarrassed to say that we have been snowed under with questions about Moneydance 2010. This is one of the features in Moneydance 2010 which users either love or hate. Currently, Moneydance "sees" a repeated Description and assumes that the transaction is the same as last time. For things like a mortgage payment this can be incredibly useful, and for things like groceries it can be frustrating. We are tracking this new feature to determine how to best meet our users needs. Our feature request and bug reporting system is integrated with our wiki. We invite our users to register and use these systems to help improve Moneydance by bringing bugs to our attention and requesting new features. Users can also vote on tickets, which helps us determine how wide-spread bugs are and which requests have the most demand.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.
