MoneyDance 2010 fails to start with JVM could not be started error
Hi,
I was running 2008r4 640 prior to today. I saw the 2010 version was released and proceeded to download that version. I initially downloaded the version without java. After installing, I started getting the "The JVM could not be started. The main method may have thrown an exception." message and after hitting ok, MD closes. I then uninstalled MD and reinstalled Java via the moneydance (including java) and also by manually downloading and installing the latest java 6 update 17 but without any success. I'm running XP and have not had any problems running MD 2008 to date. I have not tried to go back to MD 2008 yet.
I'm hoping that we can resolve this without reverting back. I think have exhausted everything at this stage as i have rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled about half a dozen times now. Need some help to troubleshoot what's causing this error.
Thanks
ML

Hi all,
I succeded in getting the version 2010 installed. Here is what I did.
I read Kevin's notes and went to C:\Program Files\Java where I saw two versions of java 6.17. I cleaned them. Went to MoneyDance and saw that there was also a double version. Probably due to the many instances I installed and uninstalle MD and versions of Java. Cleaned that as wel. Opened MD 2008 and DELETED all plugins.
Installed MD 2010 OVER the old version and RESTARTED the computer. Opened MD and there was version 2010. Had to register again but thaty was no problem.

I just downloaded the build 727 Moneydance installer (not the jre version since I was already running 1.6_17) and installed it to a new folder "Moneydance 2010".
Moneydance started immediately without any error messages. In my Moneydance 2008 folder (named "Moneydance", I noticed these versions "jcommon-1.0.12.jar" and "jfreechart-1.0.9.jar" were present. I had originally tried to install 2010 into this existing folder, and then received the cannot start JVM error.
During the 2010 install into an existing Moneydance folder, does the installer automatically replace the older .jar files or just add the newer versions?
In any case it seems to be working OK now.

I successfully installed Moneydance 2010 on my HP Win XP laptop and then when trying to put it on my XP office desktop encountered all of the above issues. I tried all of the suggestions to no avail.
Unfortunately, I didn't still have the 2008 install file but successfully downloaded it from here:
http://moneydance.com/download/2008/installers/MoneydanceInstallwj.exe
It installed fine and works well as before.
2010 working great on Linux. I will watch for updates.

Hi:
I removed all extensions and tried to re-install and that did not work.
I downloaded the new installer version the new installer with the size of Xmx flag changed (post #30), and that fixed my problem!
Thank you!

Install worked.
I had no other version or duplicates of Java. I opened MD'08 & uninstalled all extensions & closed. Opened C:/program files/moneydance, deleted all instances of jcommon & jfreechart, installed build 727 & it worked.
Thanks to all who helped.
