file restoration/opening
I have somehow - (I know not how !) finished up with a backup
file opening when I start MD .that is EARLIER than the file when
last worked upon. i.e. latest data known to have been inserted into
MD is not shown in the file - Consequently my data is not up to
date.
I back up to an external hard disk "J" (for security) - when I open
that file in windows explorer I can find the last 5 files saved and
when I try to open one of these files in MD it will only do so if I
copy it into the MD program file on my hard disk. (All of the files
in my backup directory on drive J end with .md and the date of
saving)
When I have done that I can open the file in MD BUT...... when I
try to close/save/backup the file and/or MD , MD will not let me -
It shows me the attached notice and then I have to resort to
CTRL<ALT<DEL to achieve closure - which results in closure of
the whole computer session.
You will appreciate I need to open all of the 5 backup files to
establish which is the latest and most uptodate and then save that
as my most uptodate backup copy which will open automatically on
starting MD
Can you help/advise please ?

Hi Colin,
Have you looked for your original file yet? Try doing a search for ".md". Also, what happens if you copy your backup files into your documents folder on your primary hard drive, and then use your usual copy of Moneydance to open it?
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

Hi Jon
Thank you for your speedy reply - much appreciated
As I explained in my original message I had copied the backup files to my hard disk and then after opening them had a major problem saving them and trying to close the MD programme itself. (I sent you the message box I was getting when trying to save/close)
However ...today I have tried operating as usual from the backup location and have found all is operating as it should !!....and I have succeeded in getting my correct most up to date file back.
Thank you anyway.
I do from time to time get glitches in the programme none of which has warranted a call for help except perhaps one irritating one............
One recurring problem I get is when I save to exit ..
the MD screen goes black and hangs for some time before closing. Is this my computer or have you had this problem reported before ?? I am using Windows 7 and MD 2011r2(803) with Java 1.6.0_21

Hi Colin,
Glad to here it is working well.
I don't recall hearing about the save on exit error, how long does it hang for?
Sincerely,

Hi Jon
Originally I left it on screen to to hang and it hung for , relatively speaking, some considerable time - I don't leave it hanging on screen now - I minimize it as that is the only way I can clear the screen to do something else.
