The only remaining issue is the transaction that will not delete permanently. I delete it & it appears gone, but within a minute it reappears. Oh do I wish MD had a "undo" feature when I accidentally deleted the wrong transaction.
You might check the console log to see if there are any errors or clues that might suggest something.

Is it possible this account is set up to download transactions directly and it is restoring that transaction by that means? Also as a wild guess, try right clicking and selecting "show other side" and see where it goes.

mhoggietag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/461287752018-09-23T21:02:56Z2018-09-23T21:02:56ZUpgrade issue

Your main data files should not be in your local dropbox folder, this folder will have a copy of the files if you are using the Dropbox Folder method of syncing but you should not be opening any data set from here with moneydance directly.

As mhoggie has suggested it could be a transaction getting downloaded, if they are deleted rather than merged this type of thing can happen.

To correct this type of issue you would probably have to reset the syncing. I have copies the instructions for this from another post:

This process involves disabling the current sync settings, deleting all trace of the sync from Dropbox, then setting up again from scratch.

NOTE: If you have any un-synced transactions on your mobile devices then this process will delete any transactions not stored in the main data set. You'll want to manually enter any transactions like this before following the steps.

First disable Dropbox syncing in Moneydance via File --> Syncing, then close Moneydance.

Using the Dropbox app or website interface, delete the .moneydancesync folder in your Dropbox folder.

Then re-open Moneydance and re-enable Dropbox syncing via File --> Syncing.

Sign out of Dropbox syncing on the Moneydance app on your mobile device and reconnect.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/461287752018-09-25T02:27:37Z2018-09-25T02:27:37ZUpgrade issue

@ mhoggie I'm seeing if modifying the transaction will allow me to delete it. I have
never faced anything like this with MD in the past....Nope, it just
reverted to the original. I did just take a look at the console log, but
didn't see anything there. Of course I could easily be missing something
there. And no, this was a transaction I manually added while on vacation. I
just closed MD on my computer, opened the MD app on my phone, & deleted the
transaction, since that's where I originally posted it. When I 1st reopened
MD on my computer, the transaction was still there, but I just checked
again, & it is gone. I've never had anything like that happen before, but
I'll be happy if it just stays gone. So far, so good!

BTW MoneyDance does have an "undo" feature. You can undo a delete or other
actions from there.

Thanks again for all your thoughts & "wild guesses". I really appreciated
it.

jkwood82tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/461287752018-09-25T03:02:50Z2018-09-25T03:02:50ZUpgrade issue

@dwg Thank you! That makes sense. I had noticed that lately syncing between my
phone app & computer MD seemed to be lagging. I have followed your steps to
reset the syncing.

Also, thank you for the clarification. I am using the Dropbox Folder method
of syncing & only ever start MD from the software shortcut, not from the
data set.

jkwood82tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/461287752018-09-25T05:12:16Z2018-09-25T05:12:16ZUpgrade issue

How you start Moneydance is not important it is where the data is located that can be significant. It is not a good idea to have the data in any sort of network drive as that can significant impact performance, it is also not a good idea to use Moneydance data that is located in your Dropbox folder, having both Moneydance and the Dropbox reading/writing data is not good it can cause problems. The syncing data that Moneydance writes to dropbox is fine as that is written in such a way as to not have any issues.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/461287752018-09-25T18:29:32Z2018-09-25T18:29:32ZUpgrade issue

So...I think MD accesses the database in my Dropbox folder on my computer.
Then, if my understanding is correct, that folder syncs with Dropbox.com. I
believe that means the MD data is local, not on a network drive, right?

jkwood82tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/461287752018-09-25T21:20:42Z2018-09-25T21:20:42ZUpgrade issue

In a standard installation your data is stored in the .moneydance/documents folder located in your home directory. This is what you interact with when adding/deleting/modifying data, running reports etc. Moneydance reads/writes data to this location in such way that also facilitates syncing but it also operates on the basis that it is the only software reading/writing to this location.

When you are using the Dropbox folder syncing method Moneydance copies incremental files to and from this location from where the local data is held, and yes the dropbox client syncing the data in this folder with what is on dropbox.com. It is this approach that facilitates the offline use of Moneydance.

So if you were to look, when using Dropbox folder method, you would see that you really have two copies of your data on your computer, one copy that you interact with using Moneydance and by default is located as above (but can be moved within certain guidelines) and another copy that Moneydance itself is using (located in your Dropbox folder) to pass syncing data between different computers.

dwg
