Importing from a CSV
Hi
Thanks to my bank changing its on-line banking, I am no longer receiving transactions in the Quicken format, which I used to load without difficulty into Moneydance. Now their only solution is to provide a CSV file. I was comfortable with that as Moneydance seems to be able to import CSVs. However it seems to work terribly when I use your import facilility. I have to read the description into the memo field, otherwise it gets completely confused and enters transactions at random dates and also shows them as reconciled. As it is I have now managed to import but it duplicates the memo field into the description field and tries to find a category match. This is really annoying - why does it do this? I have to manually go through and delete description from every item entered. What am I doing wrong - is there a clean way to bring in the data that I want and that's it?

Hi Niall,
There is a free, third-party CSV importer developed exclusively for Moneydance. IMO, it is superior to the build-in importer or the Text Importer extension.
You can download it directly from the developer's website. There is a 'How to use it' link at the bottom of the webpage.

What you'll want is the mdcsvimporter-v22.zip file. Your browser may or may not automatically unzip the file - it must be unzipped.
If you need help with setting it up, I'd be glad to lend a hand.
The easiest way to do so is to post a small sample of your bank's CSV file.
I would need to see at least 1 deposit transaction and 1 payment transaction to see how they are formatted.
Include the header row and (if any) the footer row.
Keep in mind that these are public forums so remove any sensitive information from the CSV file before attaching it.
