Unable to delete parent account
TD Bank stopped working with Moneydance so I decided to change banks. When I entered the information for my new bank account I found that the new account is now a child account with my TD Bank account being the parent account. This seems to be keeping me from being able to sign in to my new bank account.
How can I delete all traces of my old TD Bank account so that my new account will be its own parent or the only account in my Moneydance? Where is my old TD Bank’s information being stored? Is it in my computer or at Infinite Kind? I have deleted all the TD Bank files visible to me in my computer but have been unable to keep TD Bank from being shown as the parent account.
Please help.

It looks as if one person from Infinite Kind has seen this message. Why have I not received a reply?
Please help me.

Just a user,
When you create the account for your new bank, there was a field to designate the parent account. If you select your new account and click "account" "edit", you will get the same setup page where you can change the parent account. Just change it to the name of your data set, which is the root parent. Otherwise your old TD account should not have any affect on your new bank account. You probably just want to keep the TD account as is and just show it as "inactive" if you are done with it. That will allow you to look at old activity if you need to. You may need to change your reminders so they withdrawal from the correct account.

Hi lewin.barringer,
Another possibility is that you may have named your Moneydance data file TD Bank when you created it.
When you name your data file, you create the name of the root parent account. (which houses all other accounts) Thus in your instance, any account that you add to your data file falls under the TD Bank root parent account.
Most users name their data file something more encompassing. e.g. My Finances or Personal Finances.
If it is the case where you've named your data file TD Bank and you want to change the name, then look to this Moneydance KB article.

I did just have the old account named TD Bank account. Actually I would like to keep its categories as they are the ones I will continue to use with my new bank.
Currently when I try to open the new account I get the error message shown at the bottom of this page. It may not be caused by having the old parent account still in my system. I have no idea just why this isn’t working.
Thanks for getting back to me.

Hi lewin.barringer,
Per your OP, you are trying to connect to a 'new bank'.
What is the name of the new bank?
Moneydance uses direct-connect exclusively. It does not use any kind of screen-scraping or web connect.
Knowing this, many (not all) financial institutions require authorization to access their direct-connect OFX server. Many (not all) require separate credentials to access such servers.
Look on the new bank's website for any indication of how to go about using direct-connect and how to go about authorizing access. Many (not all) allow you to do so directly from their website.

Hi Kevin,
The bank I am trying to connect with is the Bryn Mawr Trust. I know this can bec done as I tested it with my personal account at the same bank. I then opened a business account and tried to connect that one. I couldn’t get bit to connect.
I have been fighting this problem for many weeks. At this point I have deleted my personal account with Bryn Mawr Trust as well as my account with TD Bank. I suspected one of the old accounts might have been hanging things up. Despite deleting all the other accounts I am still unable to get the new business account connected.
I don’t know what ekse I can do. Do you?
I’ll try again tomorrow.

Hi Lewin,
There is a menu item 'Forget Online Passwords' under the 'Online' menu.
Try using that to clear any passwords that Moneydance may be clinging to.
Other than that, if you've authorized the account for direct-connect access and confirmed that you are using the proper credentials (user ID and password) then I'm afraid that I'm about out of ideas.
You'll need to wait for MD support's online access staffer to chime in. Unfortunately, as of late, they are not making the rounds all that often.
Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.
