Cannot Install 2010
MD 2008 was working fine. I downloaded 2010 and installed. I cannot get it to run. I get the message: "The JVM could not be started. The main method may have thrown an exception." I have Java version 6, update 16 installed and working on my computer. Please help.

Now I have serious problems. I am using Windows XP. I could not install MD 2010 as above. So I restored my computer to an earlier state when MD 2008 worked. Now I cannot open MD 2008. I get the error: ".\moneydance.jar not found or empty". When I look in my program files directory I have a money dance folder, moneydance(2) folder and moneydance(3) folder all with different files. MD uninstall or windows uninstall will not work. When I try to redownload MD it will not install. Please help me.

Try opening Moneydance from your Moneydance folder (not the Moneydance(2) or (3) folder. There should be a Moneydance.exe application file in there.
It sounds like your installer might have been corrupted in some way. Did the installation seem to finish without an error? What is the size of the download file? Why won't it install? What are the error messages or reasons given by the uninstaller?
Sincerely,
Brian

Whe I open MD from the MD folder I get the same error: .\monedance.jar not found or empty. The installer seemed to finish OK. MoneydanceInstall.exe is 7.81 MB. Now when I run it it says MD did not install correctly due to a corrupted java file. If I choose "locate" and send it to java.exe it says no JVM could be found. If I choose "download" it says that the bundled JRE is corrupted. I have uninstalled java, restored to a point days ago and tried again, redownloaded over and over again. There is no message with the uninstaller, it just gives me an hourglass for a few seconds and then nothing happens.

I installed an old version of java and then MD installed, but again will not run - "the JVM could not be started"

Are you downloading the version of Moneydance that includes Java? If you are not, then please do and let me know.

Either way. All the files install, including Java. When I start MD I get
"The JVM could not be started"

i'm also having the same problem with 2010 but at least i am able to get back to 2008.
i'm curious. what version of java do you have running and did you have running?
i think i still have some type of ghost java 1.3.1.12 out there which may be screwing up 2010 but not 2008. just trying to see if i can draw some parallels.

Either my java is bad/corrupted or MD simply cannot find it. I have
downloaded an older version of java, but no help. When I try to download the
latest version of java now it says I already have the latest version.

santella1: did you try the uninstall.exe that is located in the Moneydance folder? (Or is that what you mean by MD uninstall?)
12 Posted by rlsantella on 10 Dec, 2009 02:17 AM
I am now able to uninstall MD, but I get the same errors upon reinstalling.

I can now freely install and uninstall, but even after installing with java I get "No JVM could be found"

I get the same error as well when trying to launch the application after install: ""The JVM could not be started. The main method may have thrown an exception." I performed the install using the "MoneydanceInstallwj" file.

Have you tried installing MD to a new directory that is different from the directory where MD 2010 is installed?
We are working on a solution so that this issue does not arise.

I don't understand. Install MD 2010 in a directory other than the Moneydance
directory?

If you are not using the most recent version (2010 build 727), please update to that version. You can download the update here. This update has resolved a few key issues our users have been experiencing. We believe this build has fixed the JVM error. Please let me know if your issue persists and we will look into other solutions.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.

Thanks to all on this discussion. I have just started using Moneydance for Windows 7 and had originally installed a trial version before purchasing MD 2010. The first time I used MD 2010 everything worked OK but for the last two days I was getting the same error as everyone else in this discussion.
I had tried installing; uninstalling, Java installing etc. etc. but still no luck - I had even tried reverting to MD 2008 which worked fine but would not accept my license key!
I've now got to the bottom of this thread and tried installing the above 2010 727 version linked above - now everything works! I hope this doesn't happen again but thanks to all for the advice and cure.
Regards
John Ross
