Inconsistent saving behaviour [MacOSX 10.6.2]

This crept back into MD in one of the later updates to MD2008 (or it could perhaps be related to the OSX upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6?), and I notice it's still there in MD2010. Sometimes nothing happens if I try to manually save the latest changes to my data using the cmd-S keyboard shortcut. If I then use the 'File' menu command with the mouse that works fine. I haven't managed to figure out whether there's a specific set of steps to produce this situation .. it appears to be intermittent.

    Enoch,

Do you have anything in your help->console window that might be a related error message?

    Hi Brian,

Thanks to you, I now know that the console window exists :) .. But alas, no help in this case. I just checked it (immediately after seeing the behaviour), and found nothing after "finished updating prices".

But just checked back again .. and there is a reference to "autosave task". Is it possible that the autosave function could cause this?? Not sure .. No other clues.

I have had this issue before -- I usually have to click on a different account and then it will let me do the save command. Weird, but something I know to look for before I quit now. I noticed that the icon in the title bar changes from a faded version to a solid colored one once the file is saved as well

If you are not using the most recent version (2010 build 730), please update to that version. You can download the update here. This update has resolved a few key issues our users have been experiencing, including some saving issues. Please let me know if your issue persists and we will look into other solutions.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.

In the past some of our users have experienced issues when using the auto-save function on a Mac. Would you be willing to turn off this option and let me know how/if that affects things.

Thanks for bearing with us, as you said this has been a touch issue to reproduce which is making it a bit more difficult to reproduce.

    Hi Angie,

I've had the auto save switched off now for about a day. I haven't had 100% success with saving by keyboard shortcut, but I'm fairly confident it's been better than before. So I'd say that might be one part of a clue to the issue, but not all of it.

Most commonly the failure to save by shortcut happens on home page; switching to Reminders or any account view usually fixes it.

I think I've cracked it. I believe this behaviour happens in a specific circumstance:
    • I'm on the "Home Page"
    • I click on something that opens a pop-up (e.g. a saved report, a stock price, etc.)
    • I subsequently close the pop-up
    • closing the pop-up returns me to the home page view, where the "Home Page" item in the lefthand panel is "selected but not selected" - i.e. there's a grey-blue highlight over it rather than the bold blue that you get when you click on it in the panel

Now .. In this circumstance, I can save with the menu command but not with the keyboard shortcut.

If I click on the "Home Page" item in the panel (resulting in the bold blue highlight), I can then save with the shortcut.

Clearly some inconsistent behaviour somewhere. Hopefully you guys can pick it up from there.
