Moneydance 2012 won't access my 2011 data file

The instructions in the user guide says that Moneydance will prompt me to Create New, Import or Open a data file. It didn't give me the OPEN option.

I created a new file hoping that I could select OPEN from the file menu. But it only shows the new file I just created with no way to go find the 2011 MD file.

It appears that the data files for 2011 and 2012 are differen because they seem to have very different file names and folder structures.

So, how the heck do get my 2011 file open?

Also, I keep this file on a network folder which is mounted. It is not in my home folder. From what I see so far, Moneydance 2012 only opens data files if they are stored in my home folder under .moneydance/Documents/... and that is just about worthless. So I am assuming something is not quite right.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Kind of need this quickly if possible.

    Hi Glenn,

Because of the file format changes that Moneydance 2012 has, you have to import your file (which will also be stored as a backup in the new data folder format) by going to File -> Import.

We're working on a new Moneydance-to-Moneydance sync method, however it's not yet available. In the meantime, you can either import your file into Moneydance 2012, then move the data folder onto your shared folder area and create a symlink where the data folder was, or you can stay with the 2011 version until we implement the new syncing method.

I found the import process. Then I was starting to suspect the need for the symlink after seeing there is no way to access other folders.

Thanks you for confirming the process.
