Start afresh, delete all transactions
I have been running Moneydance in Windows since 2010, at present it is v2015.6 in Windows 10 v1803.
I use MD for my home accounts, including savings and investments, the main activity is with My current and credit card accounts.
All entries are manual, I do not go on-line or download data.
Until recently, all went well but, in the last few months, reconciles of the current and credit cards accounts have been faulty and unstable. Sometimes a successful reconciliation one month would be followed the next month by a wrong starting balance. At other times, reconciliation would fail with no error found after extensive checking, the only cure seemed to be to remove all the work, shut down, reopen and start again.
I thought it would be best to start over with a new file, with manually inserted correct starting amounts shown as brought forward. I assumed I could make a copy of the current file for reference and delete all transactions in the original version to start again with an acceptable amount of editing. I further assumed that deleting all transactions would leave a file having an empty registry and the infrastructure of the old file with account and category details intact. I proposed to rename the file and use it as my new data file.
Searches in Help have revealed no hint of advice for proceeding as I hoped. If can help, please advise. I do no want to give up.

Hi -Kevin N
Thanks very much for the prompt and helpful reply
I read the post, followed the very clear instructions, and achieved the
desired and promised result, more or less. I say that because a few of
my asset accounts and almost all of the investment accounts still
contain data. I suppose patient deleting of the unwanted transactions
one by one will clear the registers eventually The important thing is
that the frequently used accounts are empty and ready for new data.
It would help users like me if the website search process could be
improved to make results more relevant. Just now, a search for "delete
all transactions" produced more than 2000 offers.
Happy New Year,
Bill

Hi Bill,
Thank you for reporting back with your results.
It seems odd that the investment accounts retained their transactions.
To expedite the removal of the unwanted transactions you can try the following.
Highlight any transaction in the register.
Then use key-combo CTRL-A (all transactions should now be highlighted)
Tap the DELETE key on your keyboard.

My Investment accounts are more complex than the current and cash
accounts. Almost every entry has several components, money in or out,
tax, charges, commissions and so on. Perhaps MD is programmed to do
nothing if in doubt. In any case, I can cope slowly.
I knew about the way to highlight all transactions. I have been wary of
deleting transactions in bulk because I have memories of warnings not to
do that. What a pity I cannot recall the details. If you can point me
to any references, I'd be most grateful.
To return to the export/import processes used this morning. I had been
loath to use that facility with QIF files because of my low opinion of
Quicken, having been one of those UK home accounts users who were cast
adrift.
Bill
