Hi All
I'm running Win 10 64 bit.
I have downloaded & installed version 1850 from the preview page yet MD says it's version 1838.
Why should this be so?

    Hi iandarkwater,

At any point of installing any of the preview builds, did you install the .appx version?

The appx version installs to an entirely different location than the .exe version.

Make sure that any .appx versions are uninstalled.

    Hi Kevin
    Thanks for your reply.
Yes I did install .appx versions; how do I remove the .appx versions?
My uninstaller only sees one version of MD & I've already tried un-installing that & reinstalling via an .exe version.
    TIA
    Ian

    Hi iandarkwater,

If I remember correctly, I was able to uninstall the .appx version through the Settings > Apps > Apps & Features interface.

It is my understanding that the .appx version installs in
    C:\Users\ yourwindowslogon \AppData\Local\Packages
You should see a 'theinfinitekind...' package there towards the bottom of the list.
You'll need to set the option to 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' or you won't be able to see the AppData folder.
You should create a 'Restore Point' before deleting the package. (if any)

An easier and maybe safer approach may be to just make sure that the shortcut that you are using is pointing to the .exe installation. If not, then just create one and leave the appx version alone.

It's somewhat easier than that.... If you go to the start menu you should see two icons for MD. Check which one opens which version.

Right clicking either will reveal an uninstall option.

It turn out that the icon pinned to my task bar led to the .appx version 1838 but the start bar icon, of which there was only one, led to the .exe version 1850.
So all is happy & resolved & thank you to Kevin & Jeff for your prompt & helpful advice.
    Regards
    Ian
