Moneydance 2012 Freezing
I upgraded to Moneydance 2012 and the program is constantly freezing up. There is no spinning beach ball, but the program is definitely not responsive. The only way to close it is through Force Quit. Let me know if there is anything that I can do to remedy the problem on my end.

As long as we're talking about the mini net worth graph (relating to freezes), i thought i saw a screenshot somewhere that showed an 'income/expense' chart up there. Being able to show that for -- for example, the current month or the last 30 days or whatever might be useful. (I get paid late in the month once a month, so last 30 days would be more useful personally). Any chance we'll have the ability to see some kind of income/expense chart up there? Or did i hallucinate that screenshot (i am schizophrenic).

Turning off the Net Worth graph at the top also resolved the freezing for me.

Hi robwilkens,
That hallucination was the Budget Graph. :)
If you create a Budget, you can activate that graph.
The display options are:
This month
This year
Last 30 days
Last 365 days
A little known benefit of the Budget Graph is that if you click on the graph it displays a table view of the budget.

Thanks.. This is probably another topic for another thread.. But i just selected it, and i have a hastily created budget set up, but the graph is blank in terms of data no matter which # of days i select.. I think it has something to do with where it says "No Budget Selected" -- it's not clear how to select a budget. I go to budget manager, it shows me my "Untitled Budget" i select it, hit done, and nothing changes.

Hi Bryan & robwilkens,
Do you have any really old txns in your data file? Like from the 60's?
If I remember correctly, these very old txns are what would cause trouble for the Net Worth graph when it would try to redraw itself.
I could be wrong about that though. MD support may be able to confirm or debunk that.

Hi robwilkens,
Try closing and restarting MD to see if the budget changes take effect.

Reply to #71:
Nothing older than maybe 2008 in there. I actually just went through all my open and closed accounts to confirm that. I did track data older than that with other software, but suffered a major data loss in early 2008.
Reply to #72:
Ah. After i restarted i clearly saw where it let me select the budget "Untitled Budget". I'm not 100% sure it wasn't there before hand.. Thnks

My oldest transaction is from 2005.

Hi robwilkens, Bryan,
Yea, like I said, i wasn't really sure what was the cause of the Net Worth Graph freeze ups. It may even have something to do with the 'Start Date' that get entered into the 'Account Info' form. Again, not sure. MD support?
So to recap:
The Net Worth Graph was causing the freeze ups.
robwilkens, You have the Budget Graph working.
The ker-ching sound effect is really annoying.

:=) Thanks Kevin. Getting someone's input from support on status of net worth issue would be nice.. But I really appreciate the commnity level support you provided
My budget chart is a little corny though. Under expenses it's showing that i spent over $4700 in the previous 30 days. There's a dark blue line which is proabably close to actual expenses.. Then there's a long extended purple striped section of blue line which goes to the 4700 mark (about $3,000 long let's say).
(corrected post at least partially)

Hi robwilkens,
I believe that the blue line represents your actual expenses. The cross-hatched line represents over-budget spending.
There may also be a single line representing the total budgeted amount.
Again, if you click on the actual budget bars, a table view of the budget graph will appear, which will give you a better view of what was over or under budget.

Ah. Realized there were a lot of 'automatic' categories for budgeting that were just account transfers which weren't really expenses.. And moving money around is apparently considered spending unless i remove those categories. Looks a lot better now.

Hi robwilkens,
I think we've whipped this horse for all we can get.
I feel bad for Jason, the OP. I fear that we've flogged his inbox.

One more update... I've uploaded build 841 which I believe fixes the lockup issue:
http://infinitekind.com/preview
As you discovered, build 840 actually made matters worse. Oops.
Thanks,
Sean

ignore.
76 Posted by robwilkens on 30 Nov, 2012 01:29 AM
Sean-- it's better - but not fixed entirely yet. At first i was sure it was fixed. Then i decided to exit moneydance and come back in with net worth set as default.. then it froze. Then i force quit (and this is new: none of the times i force quit did it corrupt the file), next time i got it to accept the transaction in the register, but when i went to delete it it froze. I tried a few more runs, and adding and/or deleting often caused a freeze -- a positive again, though, so far none of this corrupted the file. I switched back to budget view for now.

Down loaded 841 into windows 64 and MD no longer accepts downloaded QFX
files from banks. Accounts that worked under the official 2012 release no
longer auto connect. If I drag them over from the download folder MD hangs
on the account selection dialog.
78 Posted by robwilkens on 30 Nov, 2012 02:33 AM
To Rod Hunt: Have you tried changing your 'net worth' view to a 'budget' view (from view menu), that seems to work around some of the freezes. If a freeze is what happened with the QFX, this may fix it.

Thank you Rob. Changing the view from 'net worth' to 'budget' corrected the
freeze on downloads..

The no-longer-accepts OFX files is a separate issue that has been resolved for 842 which will be uploaded later today.

Hi Everyone,
If you have been experiencing Moneydance crashing on autosave since the first release of 2012 could you please try out the latest preview and tell us if this error persists?
This would mean if you have been running a copy of 2012.1 that you may have downloaded in October or November, and the program would crash on autosave, can you confirm that it is not doing this in the latest preview build (Number 842), which can be downloaded here: http://infinitekind.com/preview
Please note that we are not asking about the crash that came up in certain older preview builds regarding the net worth graph.
We've been getting mixed reports on if it persists and it is important to get this cleared up before it goes out of beta.
Thanks so much, none of us have been able to recreate this bug so your help in testing is greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support
