Help! All of my files are gone with the exception of a few entries from 2009 and 2010!
I've attempted to open back-up files but they don't show up and when I click on the application folder (the one without the .md extension) I get a warning saying "Moneydance quit undexpectedly."
How can I get my files from the last 2 years back???
Thanks.
Laura

Depending upon the Operating System that you are using, your original .md data files are located in one of four places:

    For OS X:
    /Users/yourusername/Library/Containers/com.infinitkind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/archive or
    /Users/yourusername/Library/"Application Support"/Moneydance/archive

    For Windows:
    YourName > .moneydance > archive

    For Linux:
    YourName > .moneydance > archive

Once you locate your original .md data files, I would suggest that you create a folder named "MDDataFiles" and move the files into there.

Then, depending upon your Operating System, I advise doing the following:
    For OS X:
    Delete /Users/yourusername/Library/Containers/com.infinitkind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Documents
    or
    Delete /Users/yourusername/Library/"Application Support"/Moneydance/Documents

    For Windows:
    Delete .moneydance > Documents

    For Linux:
    Delete .moneydance > Documents

Then start the process of installing Moneydance 2012 all over again. And choose Import File from the green splash screen that comes up. And select the appropriate .md data file from the "MDDataFile" folder that you created.

    Hi,
I followed all of your instructions but when I got to the Green window and chose Import File and chose the MDDataFiles folder and the "Data" file, then the "Old Data" file the it got me no where.
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Laura

    Laura,

When you begin using Moneydance 2012 your data is imported into a new file type and your old file was archived. Your data is now all stored in Moneydance 2012. First off, please make sure that you're opening Moneydance 2012 and not an earlier version. Now, to open a backup file, first do a spotlight search for ".md" and choose the correct file. Backup files have the date they are made appended to the file extension- for example the backup of a file named "My File" made on October 30, 2012 would be called "My File.md-2012-10-30". To open the backup file rename it so the extension is .md- for example I might rename the example above to "My File from Oct 30 backup.md" or simply "My File.md". If you open the file with Moneydance 2012 the file will (again) be imported into the new format and the old one will be archived. If you don't want this to happen you should uninstall Moneydance 2012 and open your files with Moneydance 2011.

I hope this helps you to access your data, and if you have any other questions or trouble please don't hesitate to ask,

    Angie Rauscher
